Waterhead Coniston

Syntes om Location is great being just outside of Coniston village, but only a short walk on the footpath. The surroundings are utterly stunning, with a long length of 'beach' access straight onto the lake right next to the site. It's a simple site in a great location and almost 'proper' camping with basic facilities. Despite downsides below, I'd absolutely stay again.

Syntes ikke om It said on PitchUp that there was a running water tap on site. However, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT FRESH DRINKING WATER. It's a tap on a blue water tank on a trailer. Each time over 2 of the days that I was there, it appeared to be empty; or at least I couldn't get the tap to work. There were no instructions, so I assume it was a simple matter, which would indicate that it was empty. There is also a large, ugly skip for rubbish, which was full and stank. There were 5x Portaloo toilets, only one of which ever had working hand sanitiser, although there is a lady who comes each day at multiple times to sign new arrivals in; you would think that the water tank and toilet facilities would be fully checked each day as part of these visits. The lady did advise that the water tank was filled by a fresh water supply, but to boil water from it to be safe. I'd advise taking water with you, or there are a couple of shops in Coniston village to buy water from.

Fra bestyreren: Hello I’m glad you enjoy the setting of our pop up campsite.

As far as I’m aware on pitch up it says fresh water which the tank is fresh from the mains. But because of the location of our campsite there is no running Tap water.

Apologies about the tank not seeming to work properly but it is checked daily and never gets to be fully empty. Always filled up maybe we could put some clearer instructions on the bowser for use. The toilets are also cleaned twice a day morning and early evening but unfortunately the hand sanitizer has been low this year and this is something the toilet company refills when they empty them. So I will speak to them about doing this more regularly.

Syntes om Beautiful setting and lots of space. Very quiet at night. But the best bit is the lake side location. Perfect swimming!
The pub next door is great too.
Lovely hearing the owls at night.

Syntes ikke om We knew it was going to be basic, which was totally fine. But only one toilet had hand sanitiser. Also, maybe more instructions for people using the portaloos would be good. Like why you should flush before as well as after, and maybe to flush more than once!

Syntes ikke om My dog cut her paw quite badly on the first day. I found it.it was the bottom of a glass or bottle. An occasional check of the area might help also the pebble beach area.

Syntes om Fantastic location, friendly staff, portable toilets were cleaned whilst I was there on a 2 night stay. You can access the water directly from the site , beautiful place.

Syntes om Excellent views of the lake and nearby peaks. Great location and clean amenities on site. Excellent value for money. Short walk into the village centre and very respectful campers throughout the site. Would definitely recommend if considering.

Syntes ikke om lots of flies around the lake which of course is to be expected and no fault of the site.

Syntes om Nice little campsite. Plenty of space and a short walk to the village (5mins). The pub next door is also worth a visit. The owner is really friendly and allowed us to leave our car on site on the day of departure so we didn’t have to park in the village.

Syntes ikke om The portaloos are well maintained but are still portalooos at the end of the day. I understand this is a pop up site and have no qualms with them being there a sit was advertised on the site before booking.

Syntes om Good location close to town - great for food shopping and pubs etc. Lovely flat grass site, dry for our stay. Water bowser ok, portaloos bit grim on first day, but clean the rest. Need more sanitiser though - kept running out. Superb position next to lake. Owners attentive and friendly.
