Kampaoh Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada is a year-round destination for outdoorsy activities, so you should always be able to fill your days easily enough. In winter, the Sierra Nevada ski station (40 minutes’ drive) is the place to be, with more than 100 kilometres of piste suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Ski schools are on hand to teach those who need some help with technique. In summer, you can sign up for horse riding with Cortijo de las Encinillas (15 minutes), try your hand at paragliding (10 minutes) or set out to follow one of the local hiking or mountain bike trails – Los Cahorros (half an hour) and the Rio Dilar Recreation Area (45 minutes) are popular picks. For a gentler day, try a stroll around Hoya de Pedraza Botanical Garden (half an hour). Getting down into Granada (half an hour) is an excellent idea as well – it’s an attractive and atmospheric city with several must-see sights including the Alhambra, the Royal Chapel and the Generalife gardens.
