Anyone whose hols aren’t complete without a few seasidey days is in luck round here… San Marino may be landlocked, but it’s still only 30 minutes’ drive to the nearest sandy beach, a lengthy stretch on the Adriatic coast outside Rimini. It’s not just sand that should lure the whole family there either – it’s home to BoaBay, an inflatable waterpark out on the sea. Make the time to stick around and explore the city of Rimini itself too. The scenic coastal spot has lots to do, with castles to wander, museums to dive into, Roman remains to clamber around, a palace to call home and a famed Roman-era bridge (that retreating Nazis couldn’t even destroy) to cross. There’s more hereabouts if straying a little off the homeward path is acceptable, such as Italy in Miniature half an hour from base, which shows off landmark buildings from around Italy and Europe. Oltremare has dolphin shows, an aquarium and a zoo, there are slides to slip splashily down at Aquafan waterpark, and littler kids can have busy days on the rides at Fiabilandia. Prefer something a bit more adrenaline fuelled? The rides of Mirabilandia theme park are only an hour away.
