It's entirely possible that the beach and pool will take up much of your time here, but it's worth throwing in the occasional alternative outing as well – shaded walks or canalside cycle rides in the Milano Marittima pine forest, a short walk away, are particularly good on hot days, and there are more rambles to be had in Gino Pilandri Park (five minutes’ drive) and by the lake in Cervia Natural Park (10 minutes). Keeping the kids amused should be easy around here, perhaps with a visit to the colourful butterflies at Casa delle Farfalle (five minutes) or a day of splashing down the slides at Parco Acquatico Atlantica Cesenatico (15 minutes). There are also shows and rides for all ages – including some sizeable rollercoasters – at Mirabilandia (15 minutes), and lots of excellent models at Italia in Miniatura (25 minutes). For more seaside days, take a trip to Ravenna (35 minutes) to see the gorgeous mosaics in several of the historic buildings and visit Dante's Tomb, or visit Rimini (40 minutes) for more beaches and Roman ruins.
