The local area is full of splendid sights you'll want to see, including Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert (15 minutes' drive), a remote town surrounded by hills whose scenic credentials are backed up by its classification as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (France’s most beautiful villages). A 10-minute drive away, you also have the Pont du Diable, an old stone bridge that crosses a steep-sided gorge with emerald-coloured water below. You might also want to go for underground tours of the spectacular Clamouse caves (10 minutes), hiking in the foothills of the Cévennes mountains (20 minutes) or out to the rugged shores of Lac du Salagou (30 minutes) for remote open-air swims surrounded by nature. If you’re planning trips further afield, this is a fine Hérault department location to pick: within just over half an hour you can be strolling through the streets of Montpellier's old town, while the Mediterranean beaches of Sète or Cap d'Agde are roughly 45 minutes away. For grand Roman relics, antiques markets and splendid city parks, try the highly-recommended town of Nîmes (an hour and 10 minutes).
