Zona Camping Oasis del Roble

History buffs may want to make this part of Boyacá a must-visit. A palaeontology museum under 10 minutes’ walk from the site is just the tip of the dinosaur iceberg hereabouts: within a 15-minute drive is a museum dedicated entirely to fossils and (even better) a dino theme park that kids should get a patagotitan-sized kick out of. There are more museums in Villa de Leyva, while strolls around the religious art collection of Museo del Carmen and visits to the houses of Colombian revolutionaries Antonio Nariño and Antonio Ricuarte come highly recommended. Learning about the indigenous people of this area is easy round here too, as Sol Muisca is 20 minutes away and the El Infiernito site is a few minutes’ stroll from base. Active types will be easily entertained nearby: within 15 minutes, explore on horseback or on two wheels, rappel down cliff faces, bungee jump from a height, zoom across ziplines, fly through the air on a paraglider... or sign up for an extreme tour in the national park. If rooting out curios is more your thing, Oasis del Roble is within 15 minutes of a couple of good ones: head to Granja de Avestruces ostrich farm for its petting zoo (and ostrich burgers for the barbecue, but possibly don't let the kids join the dots there...). Or have a poke around Casa Terracota (the world’s largest piece of pottery, built originally as a family home), a little closer to hand.
