If you’re looking for lashings of culture and outdoor adventure, you’ll get them both at Farm Narava, 15 minutes’ drive from pretty Most na Soči and 25 minutes from UNESCO-listed Idrija in Goriška, western Slovenia. At this peaceful not-for-profit community farm, you’ll also get a warm welcome with a chilled drink, and once settled, find lots of active things to do in the spectacular alpine countryside. There are quiet corners and cosy terraces with picnic seating if you’d rather just chill on site, plus a clubhouse with comfy seating and a basic kitchen. You can also join in musical evenings around the campfire, or head to a local bar to sample Slovenian beer. Stays at Farm Narava also include the use of kayaks and mountain bikes (first-come, first-served). A basic breakfast (you can upgrade to egg on toast, a Slovenian pancake or cereal) and an evening meal (a vegetarian or meat dish with pasta or rice) are included in the price. Coffee, tea, fresh mountain spring water, wine and cold beer – there’s a bar with an outside terrace – are available for a cost, as are lunch options. There’s also a kiosk where you can buy pizzas. Cars are not permitted on the farm (parking is down the road next to the camper stop), so it’s safe for kids, who can have a workout on the climbing frames and trampoline. Facilities are being upgraded, but currently consist of a simple compost toilet and outdoor shower. Please note that you need to arrive by 7pm, as it’s not possible to pitch up after dark; bring torches for moving around at night.

Llocs d'interès

There are many wild swimming points along the Idrijca and Soca Valley river systems, including one opposite the site, which has a shallow natural pool suitable for kids. At Slap ob Idrijci (10 minutes’ drive), there is a small lake with a beach for picnics and safe water for splashing around with the kids. Kayaking (you can hire kayaks on site) or paddleboarding are also popular pursuits here, while daredevils can try out the diving board – it’s 10 metres high. Adjacent to the farm is a hiking trail with spectacular viewpoints; you can explore sleepy villages and a waterfall along the route. Visits to Brewery ZAJC 1725 (10 minutes) also come highly recommended; the museum will walk you through the history and process of brewing beer in Slovenia. There are also gorgeous alpine villages like leafy Bovec (an hour) and Kobarid (35 minutes) with its spectacular abbey and gorge, to discover. Kanal ob Soči (35 minutes) has pastel-coloured baroque-style houses along the waterfront, and Idrija (25 minutes) is UNESCO-listed for its mining heritage and museum.
