What a spot for your next getaway – FURTHER.SPACE at Leitrim Lodge has a set of cosy family-friendly lodges at the foot of Rocky Mountain. Scenic views? Absolutely – think green slopes and spectacular sunrises behind the hills. Comfortable? Indeed, these lodges have been decked out with cosy facilities such as a private firepit with log seating. You might want to make your way to these stylish lodges for a short couples’ getaway or a long break with the family. Either way, they're in a fabulous spot next to the Mourne Mountains, which have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are partly owned by the National Trust. Other stunning sights within driving distance include Tollymore Forest Park (15 minutes’ drive) and Spelga Dam (10 minutes). And maybe you'd like to ask Leitrim Lodge staff how to walk to a little-known nearby Game of Thrones filming location with pretty forest trails and mountain paths too. So, what facilities are at your disposal? Inside your pod, there’s a double bed, bunk beds to sleep two kids (under the age of 15 or under 5”5, please), and an ensuite shower room with all toiletries provided. There’s also a mini kitchenette with a kettle, miniature fridge, glasses, plates and utensils. If you'd like to tackle some outdoor cooking you can order barbecue/firepit packs. The front of the pod is fully glazed. There are no curtains, so eye masks are provided along with a privacy feature. There’s also a storage area, linen and towels, a heated towel rail and electric plugs or USB charging points. There is fencing up at the edge of the site, but the site asks guests to please take care with themselves and little children.

Here for a hike or few? There’s a mighty fine selection of walks around, including Rocky Mountain (under 10 minutes’ walk), Slieve Muck (10 minutes’ drive), Slieve Donard (25 minutes) and Slieve Binnian (25 minutes). There are more mountain slopes surrounding the Silent Valley Reservoir (25 minutes), which also has a peaceful waterside setting for post-hike relaxation. If you’re after something particularly challenging, the long-distance Mourne Way runs past Spelga Dam (10 minutes). Horse riders and hikers alike can get in a good trot in Tollymore Forest Park (15 minutes), while those keen to try canoeing or fishing might like Castlewellan Forest Park (25 minutes). Boulderers, meanwhile, should head to Bloody Bridge (25 minutes). Really, there’s plenty of variety… Murlough Beach and National Nature Reserve (25 minutes) is a 6000-year-old sand dune system and the Dundrum Castle (25 minutes) ruins are from 1177. You might like to muddle your way through The Peace Maze (20 minutes) too.
