Glamping in Snowdonia

The spectacular scenery of Snowdonia makes it a prime destination for a few nights spent out in the open air – but that doesn’t have to mean camping. If you’re keen to wake up to gorgeous views but aren’t ready to forego a proper bed, it’s time to give a Snowdonia glamping break a go.

Our Snowdonia glamping collection has everything from budget-friendly camping pods to fancy fully-equipped bell tents – what they all have in common is that opportunity to experience outdoor life in this fabulous area without having to set up your own tent.

Where you should stay in Snowdonia

The mountains, lakes and forests of Snowdonia make a fabulous backdrop for all sorts of walks and hikes, from gentle strolls to full-on mountain scrambles. If you’re planning to climb Snowdon (known as Yr Wyddfa in Welsh), glamping in Llanberis will put you close to one of the easier paths up to the peak, and make sure you’ve got a comfy place to rest afterwards. Dolgellau is another great option for walkers, with lots of fabulous trails in the surrounding area.

Those walks won’t just appeal to humans, of course – dogs are likely to enjoy the trails just as much, and they’ll be welcome to join you at lots of the area’s pubs and dog-friendly glampsites too. In terms of area, what could be better than glamping near Beddgelert, a lovely village that’s named after the ‘faithful hound’ of medieval Prince Llewelyn the Great?

All the outdoor activities and attractions make Snowdonia a prime destination for family glamping – you’ll get all the adventurous spirit of staying in the open air but with the added comfort of proper beds to sleep in. If you’re cramming days with adrenaline activities, look at glampsites near Blaenau Ffestiniog or Bethesda for easy access to the Zip World sites. Alternatively, try somewhere near Barmouth to mix your activities with beach days.

A cosy trip for two can certainly be on the cards too – several of our Snowdonia glamping sites accept adults only, for guaranteed child-free peace. The riverside village of Llanrwst is a favourite for its pretty scenery and easy access by road or train, but you’ll also find lots of sweet shepherd’s huts and smartly furnished bell tents in remote spots all over Snowdonia for romantic evenings by the campfire – or in the hot tub if you’re really going all out for luxury.

In terms of price, glamping often compares favourably with hotel stays – and the experience is likely to be much more memorable too. That said, there are ways to keep the costs down further, like looking out for minimally furnished bell tents or camping pods and bringing along more of your own kit. Our guide to glamping on a budget will give you more tips on how to save money on your break.

What to do in Snowdonia

A Snowdonia glamping break allows you to pack in all those outdoor activities by day and then sleep well in a proper bed by night. Whether you’re climbing Crib Goch, surfing at Adventure Parc Snowdonia, mountain biking at Coed y Brenin or screaming along the ziplines at Zip World Fforest you’ll no doubt welcome a cosy place to unwind afterwards.

It’s easy to picture Snowdonia as being all about the mountains, but in fact the national park runs all the way down to the coast, making this area a great option for a glamping holiday that mixes up countryside and coast. Follow up a day of hiking or mountain biking with a paddle at Tywyn beach, a tour of Harlech Castle or a stroll through the colourful Mediterranean-style village of Portmeirion.

When coming to north Wales it’s always a good idea to have a plan in place for wet weather. Booking rainproof glamping accommodation is a good start, and you should also look out for attractions like Electric Mountain, the Llanfair Slate Caverns and the underground trampolines at Bounce Below – and remember that waterfall walks are at their most impressive after a downpour.
