Glamping in the Peak District

Looking for a Peak District with family and friends? Keen to benefit from lots of fresh air but not so keen on putting up a tent – or buying loads of camping gear? Sounds like you should be considering a Peak District glamping break. It’s cheaper than a hotel stay, you can rent a pre-erected tent so your holiday gets started instantly, and there will often be lots of lovely luxurious extras to your stay that you wouldn’t find on a campsite.

Glamping in the gorgeous Peak District is a particularly clever idea if waking up to dramatic Edale views from your cosy pod appeals, or you like the sound of spacious bell tents five minutes’ drive from Alton Towers. Have a look at Pitchup’s expert guide to all the different sorts of glamping, then read on to book a bespoke Peak District glamping break.

Where to stay in the Peak District

  • The Peak District is a year-round destination for outdoor adventures, from hiking or mountain biking to abseiling and rock climbing around Castleton. If you’re glamping off-season, look for insulated, heated pods or lodges where you'll be able to stay warm and dry even if the weather goes against you.

  • As well as long walks across the moorland peaks with your dog – remember to pick a dog-friendly glampsite when you’re booking – the Peak District is wonderful for kids as it’s close to daredevil rides in theme parks including Gulliver’s Kingdom and Alton Towers. Look for spacious lodges or safari tents near Matlock or Derby to be close to all the action.

  • Looking for a cycling break with your loved one? Add a bit of proper luxury and romance to your Peak District glamping break by booking a stylish glamping stay with a hot tub. When you’ve spent a day in the saddle – perhaps pedalling along  the challenging circular route between Tideswell and Eyam – little relieves aching muscles better than relaxing in a tub with a glass of something chilled.

  • Sometimes it feels good to be alone – or at least somewhere utterly secluded with family or friends. Look for glamping sites with remote locations tucked away on farms near Edale or with fabulous views of Kinder Scout on the edge of the national park.

What you can do in the Peak District

  • Romance lacking in your life? Get back in favour with your partner by booking tickets for ballet or opera performances at prestigious Buxton Opera House before cuddling up around the toasty campfire back at your comfy bell tent.

  • Book pre-erected bell tents around High Peak to take the kids deep underground on a guided tour of the Blue John Cavern or jump in a boat to explore the huge subterranean lake at Speedwell Cavern.

  • If you're interested in touring historic houses, base yourself at glamping sites near Baslow to be in pole position for forays into the gilded apartments of Chatsworth House, or Chesterfield for touring the Elizabethan splendour of Hardwick Hall.

  • Enjoy Derwent Valley views on the cable-car flight up the Heights of Abraham, then follow the Willow Sculpture Trail to illuminated caverns for underground adventures – Pitchup has plenty of glamping sites nearby.
