Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We stayed here to meet up with family who had already booked. We were greeted by one of the owners who was very friendly. Later in the afternoon, someone else came around to check that everything was okay. This was a last minute booking, there was plenty of space available even though it was a bank holiday weekend. It is an ideal location for a family with children who want an area for them to be able to play in safety. The washing up area was clean and I liked the fact that sponges and washing up liquid were provided. The wash area/toilet block was basic but adequate and thoroughly cleaned.

Disliked: Unoccupied caravans were stored at the top of the field which appeared to be the flattest area. Also disliked the two couples who were inconsiderately noisy late at night, because they were drinking and had no awareness of how loudly they were talking or how late into the night it was. (not the owners responsibility though).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice open site with great views and plentiful walks from the doorstep The Family Tree cafe at the bottom of the hill is a great place for food and drink - staff could not be more helpful The facilities (toilet, shower, wash area) are basic but clean. What else do you need when camping?? The site is a little sloping but again nothing that can’t be managed. We will be visiting again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The location, the facilities and the warm welcome are fantastic. Toilet block was clean morning and evening. The washing up area is clean with free hot water, sponges and dish washing liquid. You can park and pitch where you like and everybody respected each others space and the whole campsite gave off a friendly vibe. Had a fab stay and great nights sleep.

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: I've stayed here a couple of times before. Good value basic campsite on a small farm in a remote location. One field with plenty of room, little barn for the facilities. Couple of walks from the campsite, and more locations a bit further away , short drive to Belper, Nottingham and other places

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Pleasant little campsite on a small farm in a quiet location. Good value for money. Basic facilities. Various walks close by. There's a train station close by, and a pub that I didn't go too but it looked nice!

Local attractions

Plot out the way to the Peak District… will it be fish and chips by the river in Matlock Bath (10 minutes' drive) or taking the cable car to the Heights of Abraham’s underground caverns (10 minutes) that gets your attention first? Gulliver's Kingdom (10 minutes) is just outside the town too for those of you with kids tagging along. Places that bring a little of history to your holiday are easy to find around here. There are period buildings and vintage trams ready for boarding at Crich Tramway (10 minutes), tours and walks around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cromford Mills (10 minutes) and the Nine Ladies (25 minutes) stone circle to see. Belper (10 minutes) is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site – so you'll be well-set to learn more about the Peak District's industrial heritage – and for other interesting little places, Wirksworth (10 minutes) has a lively marketplace, heritage centre and a museum with the bones of old villagers. For those of you with an artistic streak, Denby Pottery Village (15 minutes) runs pottery painting in its craft studio, or you could look inside the farm shop and factory shop to see what goodies are available to take home.
