  • Mini campsite with spectacular Pembrokeshire views and dark skies
  • Centrally located for easy access to coast and Preseli Hills
  • Small working farm with animals, home-grown veg and fresh eggs
Can’t decide whether to holiday on the Welsh coast or in the hills? At Patch of the Planet, you’re in pole position for both. This small, peaceful and family-friendly site is on a five-acre organic smallholding with gorgeous views over Pembrokeshire – and it’s near Maenclochog, 10 minutes’ drive from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and around half an hour from beaches like Poppit Sands and Newgale. Tucked into a willow copse, this is a mini nature reserve where you’ll be greeted by birdsong every morning. Guests have access to washing facilities, toilets and hot showers a short walk from the pitches. Because of sheep and free-range hens around the pitches, dogs are not permitted on site, but the hens do provide fresh organic eggs, which you can buy every day as well as seasonal home-grown produce. You’ll probably see the owners pottering about scything, weeding or watering from time to time – they are more than happy to give you a tour of the smallholding as well as suggest places to visit. And keep your fingers crossed for clear nights, as Pembrokeshire is famous for its dark skies and the stars can put on spectacular performances for you.

Comfrey bell tent

Liked: A beautiful place with an incredible ethos underlying the whole site. The bell tent we stayed in was comfortable and very cosy. Compost loos were well maintained and the showers were great. Neil and Dina were warm, welcoming. They were also generous with their time, explaining the restoration project of the land with genuine passion.

Comfrey bell tent

Liked: I love everything about this little site. The bell tent was very comfortable and in a beautiful peaceful setting. There is a very well equipped outdoor kitchen and the bathroom is clean and fresh. If you want to learn about permaculture this place will inspire you, they run quality courses and workshops. The owners are very welcoming, will do anything they can to help you enjoy your stay but also respect your privacy. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Comfrey bell tent

Liked: It was a fantastic place to stay for three nights. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and were given a tour of the premises. The tent was clean and equipped with a heater that we could use. Outside, there was a seating area, and a small kitchenette with a stove was also available. We had booked the comfort tent, of course. The people were incredibly friendly and curious about our UK road trip. For a small fee, we could get eggs from their own chickens. The showers and toilets were clean. The compost toilet took some getting used to, but it wasn't a problem for us. We were approximately a 50-minute drive away from Skomer Island. Visiting it is highly recommended! Just make sure to book the boat tickets in advance, as they sell out quickly. Patch of the Planet camping site comes highly recommended!

Disliked: We did, however, have a few points of concern regarding our stay. The mattress was in need of replacement as it had a sag in the middle, making it uncomfortable to lie on during the night (you would roll into the sag). When you're traveling with food items, having a small refrigerator would be helpful. This refrigerator could be placed near the area with the eggs or inside the accommodation. This way, the food would remain fresh during our travels. Other than that, the amenities were great!

Liked: Kind, welcoming hosts. Really accommodating, especially as we had a baby and toddler with us. Clean campsite, good facilities, lovely views plus very peaceful. Not far from the beach either.

Comfrey bell tent

Liked: Where to start? This is our second stay at Patch of the Planet in the 'Comfrey' glamping bell tent. Dina, Neil, Kitty and Bramble (family dog) are fantastic hosts. The site is the most tranquil campsite I've ever visited, surrounded by fields with beautiful views across Pembrokeshire. The ecological setup is commendable with compost toilets and comprehensive recycling. We had eggs, freshly laid by their chickens, each morning for breakfast. We went to Broadhaven beach, which is perfect for paddle boarding. Went to the secret fresh water pool for a swim, idyllic doesn't even begin to describe it. Had a great pint at Tafarn Sinc and climbed Mynydd Carningli (angel mountain), with spectacular views from the coast to the dales. All are within easy striking distance.

Disliked: We didn't have time to visit the watersports and activity centre at Llys y Fran county park. And leaving, we definitely disliked leaving!

Yarrow non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site is beautiful and quiet, with well spaced pitches and lots of greenery. The owners were incredibly friendly, welcoming and had loads of useful information about the area. Facilities were spotless. We loved the environmentally friendly ethos. Perfectly placed to explore all of Pembrokeshire as the site is roughly an equal distance from each coast.

Comfrey bell tent

Liked: We had an absolutely idyllic stay at Patch of the Planet. We stayed in the Comfrey tent, which was extremely spacious and comfortable. We were amazed to have a whole zone to ourselves, with a firepit area with logs to sit on, a picnic table, a kitchen facility and our very own herb patch. The shower block and toilets were great - super clean and super green! The children were able to help feed the hens and sheep, and we all loved the spread of stars across the unspoilt sky. So peaceful and stunning, with views across rolling hills. Neil and Dina couldn't do enough to ensure we were comfortable, and gave a us a tour of the land, explaining the way everything they were planting would work together across the site... we learnt about fungal networks, it's fascinating! They really have thought of everything, including a phone charging point by the shower block for those of us who get lost easily and need the sat nav! The site is in easy reach of many beaches, nature reserves and a brilliant cheese maker's shop where you can try before you buy and hear all about how the cheese is produced. We can't wait to go back next season and will stay longer next time.

Clover bell tent (basic)

Liked: We had an idyllic stay at Patch of Planet. The farm setting was peaceful and stunning. Loved waking up to see the chickens and ducks free-ranging about the place. The tent was huge and sturdy, the hot showers excellent and the compost loo clean and high standard. Dina and Neil were exemplary hosts offering us a welcome beverage and sharing useful information about local facilities and places to go adventuring. We even had a lesson in scything! I highly recommend staying here!
