  • Camping in the heart of Manistee National Forest, Northwest Michigan
  • ORV-friendly near fishing, ATV trails and biking routes in Lake County
  • Large, full-hookup pitches for 50-foot rigs, sheltered by mature trees
Family-friendly Peaceful Winds RV Park is in a well-known Northwest Michigan sports and recreation area. What you’ll get here is a great vacation experience – whether you’re overnighting, staying for group events or simply chilling under the canopy of trees. As it’s located among a mature, 30-acre hardwood woodland adjacent to the National Forest and with access to trails and countless lakes, the park offers a bunch of activities for reasonable prices – think horseback riding, fishing or kayaking. Autumn is amazingly spectacular, when the majestic forests are awash with colour. There are also plenty of short day trips that will appeal to families, from running around the sand dunes in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (one hour 20 minutes’ drive) to clambering up the landmark lighthouse at Big Sable Point (50 minutes) for Lake Michigan views. Back at the site, the RV pitches are shaded and grassy, with spacious long level pull-throughs and convenient, private back-in sites. There’s plenty of room for group gatherings and large pitches for trail bikes and ATV vehicles, as well as a campsite shop for snacks and souvenirs, and a modern and spotlessly clean shower block. You can also choose to join in with the singsong around the nightly campfire – with communal cooking facilities – and there are often kids’ activities in the playground.

Local attractions

Get the kids out and about on the plentiful cycling, horse riding and hiking trails through the Huron-Manistee National Forests (accessed from the site), or learn a new skill – perhaps kayaking on peaceful Pine river (25 minutes’ drive), or catching a salmon on the Manistee (accessed from the site). There are also miles of ATV trails in Lake County, where you can happily lose yourselves in wild countryside for the whole day. Beach bunnies can head for a number of public beaches on Lake Michigan within a 30-minute drive. You can take a day out to sample the wines in Traverse City (one hour 15 minutes) vineyards and tour kid-friendly, interactive museums, or let off steam on the dunes in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (one hour 20 minutes). Closer to base camp, you may care to pick up homemade meat jerky from the famous Dublin General Store (five minutes), and if you’re traveling in summer, you can rummage flea markets, join ox-roast events and witness the Blessing of the Bikes festivities in Baldwin (25 minutes) in June.
