  • Family-friendly site on a peninsula surrounded by lakes
  • Scenic hiking trails and saunas
  • Nearby mini zoo and mini golf course
A Swedish site with a sauna – but of course. in Sweden's Örebro County is also a splendidly scenic site, set on a peninsula on the shores of Lake Lonnen and with direct access to two lake shores for swimming and fishing – it's so pretty round these parts that peeps sometimes use the site as a wedding venue. This is a family-friendly place with a good deal to do in and around it: several hiking and jogging trails are in the area, including a trail that circles the site and is accessible to guests of limited mobility, while spaces dedicated to fishing are on the lake for those who fancy landing a catch. Wheelchair users can also use the ramp to take them directly to the lake. Or you might just prefer to sit and stare at the scenery instead… We recommend doing so from the restaurant, set in a converted barn with its own porch and seating – and if fisherfolk have had no luck, we also recommend one of the restaurant's most popular dishes Gösplankan, made with pike caught in nearby Alkvettern lake. No to that? Try the big shrimp sandwiches, baguettes, the egg and anchovy sandwiches or the hamburgers. Among the many other well-kept and well thought-out site facilities are a café, a conference centre, roomy green areas for picnics and ball games, a bike and canoe rental shop, a fishing boat rental spot, a church and a site meeting point. There's also a playground with a big pirate ship for buccaneer-based clambering. And the sauna? has separate sauna facilities for ladies and gents, for a restful time after a hard day looking at the local landscape.

Local attractions

After investigating the jogging track and walking trails on site, there's lots to do in this lovely region, such as messing about on the lake, picking up bargains at the local flea market, or tackling some mini golf nearby. If you're around in summer, the Karlskoga municipality's biggest midsummer celebrations are held in the area, with traditional celebrations such as folk dancing, games for kids and troubadour entertainment; if you're around at any time, the Knappfors mini-zoo is easily accessible from the site. The lot also recommend the nearby café Bergsmansgård, established in the late seventeenth century and serving a wide variety of homemade cakes including the local chocolate box with coconut.
