Batteries starting to run low after a few months without a break? Let Espacio Finca Alegría come to the rescue. This family- and dog-friendly site a 20-minute drive from the historic port city of Cartagena, in the Murcia region, is a hub of rest and relaxation. It is run by two yoga instructors, Rocío and Rubén, and unsurprisingly, activities like yoga, meditation and energy therapies take centre stage here. There’s no obligation to join in, of course, and if you want to just chill poolside and catch up on your reading, you’re very welcome to do so. Oh, go on… maybe just a massage to ease those aching muscles. Fancy a day at the seaside? (And by the way, if you don’t have your own transport you can rent a car on site – by the hour or by the day.) Playa de Portús is only 15 minutes’ drive away, with its sheltered beach and calm waters where you can snorkel, have a go at paddleboarding or go on a kayaking expedition to places like the Cueva Neptuno sea cave. If you prefer to be on terra firma, there are lots of hiking trails in the nearby Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso y Roldán nature area (15 minutes), where you might catch sight of falcons and eagles soaring high, plus wild boars and foxes. The store on site sells locally grown organic fruit and vegetables, plus eggs, cheese, bread and whatever else you might need for your barbecue. (And wine and beer, in case you were starting to worry.) Other amenities include a toilet block with showers, a washing-up area and a launderette.

Liked: Lovely friendly and healthy campsite run by yoga instructors. Either just a tranquil place to stay outside Cartagena or you can join the meditation and yoga classes. Good food in the restaurant and bar with healthy and tasty options.

Disliked: Sanitair gebouwen zijn niet meer van deze tijd. Rioolgeur, aan toiletten en afwas plaats. Je ziet dat er nog goede wil is om te renoveren maar alles blijft er slordig staan.

Liked: Location was very good, just of a main route and only a 15 minute walk to the beach front. Spotlessly clean toilets and shower facility. Great vehicle wash facility. Staff helpful and friendly

Disliked: Full of caravans with awnings for long term users, tightly packed and felt like a shanty town, although all were unoccupied (January), it felt tatty and grubby. Lots of stray cats.

Liked: Area is calm, beautiful mountains, wonderful sunsets, hot shower. Yes, some work is going on, they are really improving the area. Restaurant and the small shop in reception are bonus. Super nice staff, we had a nice stay and we will come back next year to see, what has happened!

Route directions

Use Google Maps to avoid the route passing through Avenida de los Pinos, as it is not a good road. The best route is the path that begins from 'Caravana's Home'. First, go there and, then add 'Espacio Finca Alegría' into on Google Maps. For public transport, take Line 6 to the final stop; the site owners can pick you up there if arranged in advance.

Local attractions

Parque Tentegorra (15 minutes’ drive) is an adventure hub with ziplines and treetop walks, plus an aquapark with water slides (and a pirate ship in the middle of the children’s pool). There’s also a playground with a giant slide and picnic areas complete with barbecue stations. When in Cartagena, check out the Roman amphitheatre, overlooked by the ruins of an old cathedral on one side and the hilltop Castillo de la Concepción on the other. The Civil War Museum has displays on this dramatic period in Spain’s recent history, or you can head to the Naval Museum on the harbour. Built in the mid-1930s in a mock-medieval style, the Batería de Castillitos (45 minutes) perches high above the sea at the tip of the Cabo Tiñoso headland. In addition to the huge guns (fired only once during the Spanish Civil War), there are far-reaching coastal views.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 2 day(s) of arrival.
Modifications are subject to a €5.00 (£4.31) fee.
