A peaceful and pleasantly landscaped site surrounded by woodland, filled with huge mature trees and bordered by the Douro river… sound just splendid? Come to Camping Refugio de Pescadores, a family-friendly site a 20-minute walk from the local town of Covaleda. The site is handily sandwiched between two nature reserves: Black Lagoon Urbión and Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park, both around 40 minutes’ drive away. Its layout – among a forest, next to a river and with level, well-manicured grassy land – is just the ticket for peaceful walks, foraging and picnicking. Accommodation around the 50,000 square metres here is well laid out among generally flat or otherwise very gently sloping grassy ground, all sufficiently shaded from the Spanish sun by large tree canopies. The team at Refugio de Pescadores are consistently hailed as being out-of-their-way friendly and helpful, and the surroundings are especially lush as well.

Liked: Location in wooded area was great. Lovely surroundings and woken by bells of sheep grazing as they made their way slowly uphill next to the site.

Disliked: Only stopped one night but couldn’t find the Motorhome service point.

Liked: Stopped here en-route to Southern Spain. Fantastic location. Great facilities

Disliked: Nobody at reception when we arrived so had a 30 minute wait before we could check in. Inconvenient but the bar was open so at least we had somewhere comfortable to wait

Liked: Big pitch easy access. Good walks from site. Plenty of new dog pooh bins around site. The couple who run the site were amazing, so helpful, I was after a local simm card for my phone and the guy was going into town for something and he showed me where the phone shop was before getting his stuff.

Disliked: Forest floor pitch was a bit foresty as described in the advert so no complaint really

Liked: Very friendly owner who gave us some excellent suggestions on cycling and walking in the area. We changed our plans based on his recommendations and we're glad we did: we had some lovely days out and saw areas we wouldn't have found ourselves. The site was very peaceful (late May) and the facilities were good. All very clean and great showers with loads of hot water. Had a couple of drinks in the bar next to site (only open at weekends this time of year) and again very friendly staff. They do food too and I believe the range and opening hours increase as the season progresses.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Beautiful location. Quiet area. Spacious grass area to park and pitch. Lovely walks. No pressure to leave early when checking out. Showers and toilets warm and clean.

Disliked: Restaurant and bar were not open. No dog mess bins on site. Some pitches are quite uneven.

Local attractions

To combine a gentle stroll around the immediate locale with a visit to place of local historical importance, hike out to the Church of San Quirico and Santa Julita, two kilometres from the site. For water-based family days, La Cuerda del Pozo Reservoir 14 kilometres from base has a good range of options including sailing, rowing, pedalo rides, windsurfing and waterskiing, as well as beach-based activities such as sunbathing (but of course), sandcastle building and burying one’s family members up to their heads in sand… The nature reserves of Black Lagoon Urbión and Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park are both around 40 minutes’ drive away, for more outdoorsy options including highly (highly) scenic hikes, mountain bike rides and horseback hacks. If you’ve got a car, the wider locale is dotted with castles and fortifications dating as far back as the 10th century; take advantage with a road trip out to the Castillo de San Esteban de Gormaz, the Castillo de Berlanga de Duero and the Fortaleza de Gormaz (the largest fortified building of its kind in Europe, no less), all around an hour’s drive away.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

General

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
Public areas are non-smoking.
Quiet hours must be respected between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.
The bar is open between 01/04 and 15/10.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
You'll need an Environment Agency rod licence (you'll need to apply for this beforehand).
