  • Family-friendly site near Laspaúles in the Pyrenees
  • Hiking, horse riding, rafting and canyoning within a 45-minute drive
  • Restaurant on site serving set menus and homemade desserts
Picked the Pyrenees for your active outdoorsy break? How sensible. Horse riding, kayaking, rafting and paragliding are among the activities around Camping Laspaúles, on the edge of the little mountain village of Laspaúles. You’d best pack your walking boots too, for many kilometres of hiking trails await in the surrounding mountains and parks (and if you’re sensing aching legs ahead, you’ll be pleased to hear that soothing thermal baths are also not too far beyond). In between these bursts of activity, retreat to the site for refreshing dips in the outdoor swimming pool (or splashes in the paddling pool for the tiddlers). If little legs still have a bit of go in them, they can trot over to the playground or tackle games of football or badminton on the sports field. There’s also a games room stacked with board games, books and toys for a retreat from the sun or chilly weather. After active days, you’ll not have to trek much further to refuel: take the short stroll over to the restaurant for traditional set meals and homemade desserts, or pick something from the range of snacks and smaller dishes. If you’d like to sizzle up your own supper on a barbecue, pick up all the vitals including fresh bread and meats from the on-site shop.

Liked: The site was a hidden gem up in the mountains. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Good dog walking along the river. Journey back down the mountain was interesting.

Local attractions

Heaps of hiking trails are all across this area of the Pyrenees, for all ages, abilities and fitness levels. If you’ve got kids in tow, try the Witches of Laspaúles trail, a two-hour round trip walk from the site around a themed park decorated with witch-themed info boards and artwork. Wet and wild times can be had on kayaking, canyoning or rafting trips from Campo, 40 minutes away, or you could take to the hills on horseback half an hour away. Also half an hour away is a paragliding centre from where you can launch into the air for stunning aerial views of the mountains. In winter, head up to Cerler ski station, an hour away, for over 250 kilometres of marked pistes and a snowpark with obstacles. All a bit too much activity? Head to the Caldes de Boí thermal baths, 40 minutes away, or those at Vilas del Turbón, 50 minutes away, to soak your aches, pains and cares away in the mineral-rich waters or take your pick from a tempting menu of beauty treatments.
