  • Well-maintained and peaceful campsite in Mpumalanga’s White River
  • On the Panorama Route; Kruger National Park 45 minutes’ drive
  • Private facilities and kitchens; pool and play area in leafy gardens
Sightseeing along the scenic Panorama Route and looking for somewhere quiet and friendly to lay your head at night? Busa House, on the outskirts of White River in Mpumalanga, is close to all the main attractions including the Lowveld Botanical Garden (15 minutes’ drive) and Graskop’s spectacular natural sights (an hour). This peaceful campsite has fully serviced grass or gravel touring and camping pitches set in luxuriant gardens less than five minutes’ drive from shopping villages, fast-food outlets and restaurants. Each one has its own well-maintained private bathroom with hot and cold running water, and a kitchen with sink, fridge/freezer, stove and oven, kettle and sink. Self-catering is the name of the game here so there’s also a braai per pitch as well – pick up provisions from White River grocery stores. When it’s time for relaxation after a day exploring the region, you can snooze in the shady garden or refresh with a dip in the pool, while the kids work off some energy at the Jungle Gym and on the trampoline. Busa House was once a private home and is still owned by the family who bought it in 1960; they are justly proud of their resort and will be pleased to answer your questions about the local area.

Local attractions

Start your road trip along the Panorama Route locally. There are vintage cars and motor bikes to be seen at the Car Museum (10 minutes’ drive), and riverside trails through the verdant Lowveld Botanical Garden (15 minutes). Graskop (an hour) is the main hub of the route – from there you can access rock formations including Pinnacle Rock standing over Driekop Gorge, dramatic cascades at Lisbon and Berlin Falls, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes in the Blyde River Canyon. And there’s another major attraction close by too, in the shape of Kruger National Park: the Numbi Gate entrance is 45 minutes’ drive away and springboard for guided safari tours to (hopefully) spot big cats, elephant herds, hippos, giraffes, rhinos… not forgetting hundreds of bird species such as eagles, vultures and storks. If the kids are with you, they’ll also likely be entranced by the subterranean caverns at Sudwala Caves (45 minutes), and a stroll past life-size models of prehistoric velociraptors in the adjoining Dinosaur Park.
