  • Small, eco-friendly and family-run site in the middle of a forest
  • A five-minute drive to Koštabona and 30 to the Slovene Riviera
  • Wifi, bike rental and shop selling homemade organic food and wine
Immerse yourself in the Istrian countryside at ECO Camp Supot. Deep inside – this small family-run park is part of an organic farm hidden in a forest where birds, deer and hedgehogs are regularly spotted. All in all, this is a particularly peaceful place, so make the most of the quiet by resting in a hammock under the shade of trees or taking a walk through the nearby woodlands. Treks are to be had along the Dragonja River and its tributaries just outside the park or up into the hills overlooking traditional Istrian villages and the Gulf of Piran. Add to the restful vibes of your getaway by lingering over meals created from the organic ingredients and local olive oil sold at the shop on site, washed down with homemade bio wine, or find food at restaurants in the seaside resorts on the Slovene Riviera (half an hour’s drive) after days out paddling in the Adriatic Sea. Retreat back to the park for nights soaking up the warmth of the campfire while chatting to other guests; the site regularly sparks up a blaze come evening and amps up the ambience by a starting few singsongs. Bike rentals are available at this eco-friendly park and it also has wifi.

Local attractions

The natural surrounds are the main draw of this area, so prepare to fill your itinerary with hikes through the hilly greenery just outside the park and along the beaches down by the coast (30 minutes’ drive). Perhaps the best stretch of sand in the region is Portorož (35 minutes), which is lined by bars and restaurants, but heading to Mesečev Zaliv (35 minutes) is recommended if you’re after somewhere quieter. This pebbly place is inside the protected Strunjan Nature Park and is only accessible on foot so tends to be less busy than similar options in Istria. Find more beaches around Koper, a pretty port city with a medieval old town. Intersperse sunbathing sessions with explores of the urban centre where the Venetian-inspired Titov Trg square, Praetorian Palace and Da Ponte Fountain – a copy of Venice's Rialto Bridge – sit. Swoon over the seaside views from the towering campanile in the 12th-century Cathedral of the Assumption, then set off towards Besenghi Degli Ughi Palace (half an hour), the most striking building in the resort town of Izola. This structure is a late-baroque palazzo with stuccoed windows and balconies covered in wrought-iron grilles.
