  • Roomy safari tents on family-friendly forest site in Limburg
  • Kids' pool, playground and activities; restaurant on site
  • 15 minutes’ drive to Snow World indoor skiing and GaiaZOO
In the Netherlands they say Limburg is a country of its own. In Limburg, they say the same thing about South Limburg, and you can see why: the unfolding landscape of hills and heaths, laced with forests and vineyards owes more to France and Germany. Drive 30 minutes from Vodatent at Camping Volkeren to Three Country Corner and you can stand in three nations at once. The on-site safari tents add to the feeling that you’re on an expedition. The roomy accommodation is set up before you arrive, so you can sling your bags in and start having adventures. When it’s time to return, the clever mobile kitchen means you can decide where to whip up a feast and eat it: stay cool inside or take the sun on your terrace, your choice. You’ll have lots of them to make on this family-friendly site. Kids will love meeting the residents of the petting zoo, jumping off excess energy on the bouncy castle and splashing in the pool. There are organised activities and indoor amusements if the weather should try and intervene. For essential refuelling you can stock up at the site shop or try the restaurant for local treats like Limburg flan.

Local attractions

The surrounding Rimburg Forest is nicknamed ‘the green pearl’, so get out to explore this leafy landscape via its walking and biking trails (hire bikes at the site). In a spot where you can visit three different countries in a heartbeat it’s not surprising that you can take in some world-ranking attractions too. Snow World is the largest indoor winter sports centre on the planet, half an hour’s drive away; Pee Wee Childrens' Play Village (45 minutes) is another record-breaker, home to Europe's largest bouncy castle and over two square kilometres of indoor and outdoor play areas. (Possibly breaks a few decibel records too.) GaiaZOO (15 minutes) recreates dry savannahs and rainforests and promises you can meet 1,500 animals in a day. If that's a bit ambitious, take the 20-minute trip to Simpelveld for a slow puff on a steam train to Valkenburg and its ancient caves and ruined castle. Being in tri-border country, you can explore a lot of Europe from this South Limburg base. With Liège 50 minutes away and Cologne an hour and a half, you could munch lunch on the Meuse and dine on the Rhine.
