  • Between nature reserves and villages in a hiking and cycling haven
  • Pool, indoor and outdoor play, water playground, tennis and restaurant
Are you the type, asks the Vakantiepark De Lindenberg team, who shudders at the thought of thronging masses on hol, and instead seeks a site with a peaceful vibe – and plenty of facilities too? If so, the crew at this Netherlands site are confident they'll see you sorted. Carefully designed for guests of all sizes to be as occupied or relaxed as they care to be on their East Netherlands holiday, this friendly and family-run site aims for a welcoming vibe as well as leisurely pursuits for guests from toddlers to seniors. And after your days around the site or out and about in the surroundings, you can retreat back to a cosy and fully-equipped swish lodge with terrace for evenings in or out of doors... Off site, this scenic setting is in scenic countryside, a kilometre and a half from the Overijssel town of Holten, 15 minutes' drive from Rijssen and 25 from Deventer. It's between the  Salland and Twente nature reserves for days out cycling and nature spotting in spectacular surrounds, and is just north of the hilly area of De Holterberg, part of the National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug. The Waarbeek amusement park is 25 minutes' drive away. Back on site, those carefully thought out leisure facilities for kids include a playground with huge jumping pillow (although grownups will surely be tempted too), a water playground for cooling off on hot days, and a roomy indoor play area if the weather clouds over for a spell. For all ages, there's an all-weather tennis court and a heated summer pool, as well as the centrally set Brasserie de Borkeld, setting out evening buffets from a different menu six days a week.

Local attractions

Set off to explore the surrounding countryside by foot or bike: local village Holten is one of the country's 'walking towns', and Vakantiepark De Lindenberg is on the Twentsch walking network for strolls and hikes for all abilities. Almost all the routes are accessible to prams, pushchairs and mobility scooters. Hike or cycle the four and a half kilometres from the site to the handsome landscapes of De Borkeld nature reserve, covering around 700 hectares of forests, heathlands, meadows and loam pits, and home to the biggest juniper berry field in the country. There are hiking and biking routes through the reserve, past its varying landscapes and its plentiful archaeological sites including prehistoric grave mounds and ancient settlements. A busier day can be sorted at the Waarbeek amusement park, 25 minutes away at Hengelo.
