  • Next to a pine wood and 200 metres from the beach
  • Close to watersports, boat trips and the Little Green Train
  • Outdoor gym and restaurant serving Sardinian dishes and seafood
See that beach up above? These splendid Sardinian sands are a teeny 200-metre stroll from Camping Village Le Cernie, on the island's east coast in the Province of Ogliastra. The site is in a pretty much perfect island setting, close to the sea, shaded by the trees of an 80 year old pinewood, and next to the Pramaera river for cooler watery days. Wander through the woods on the short stroll to the beach, or amble for about a kilometre in the other direction to reach the small village and surrounding walks of Lotzorai. As it's a seaside setting, watersports and several more beaut beaches are around this stretch of coast: you can hire a bike or scooter from the site to get around, drive a short distance to access windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and flyboarding, or take a boat out to explore some of the area's hidden coves and caves. Back on dry land, there's go-karting, paragliding and quad biking to keep you busy, and for a more placid day out you might prefer to take a trip on the Little Green Train, accessible from Arbatax a few kilometres away. Whatever you pick to do in the surroundings, get back to the Village Le Cernie restaurant in the evening, to work your way through its menu of Sardinian dishes, fresh seafood and homemade desserts; there's an outdoor gym on site too to attempt to burn it all off. Barbecues are allowed on site: pick up supplies a short drive from Lotzorai at Tortoli, or head a few kilometres north to the popular seaside resort of Santa Maria Navarrese.

Local attractions

To the beach… As well as the sands a couple of hundred metres from the site, there are some excellent strips of sand around this part of coast, with watersports easily available at most. Sort some scuba diving, snorkelling and flyboarding in Santa Maria Navarrese about 15 minutes' drive to the north. Also in Santa Maria Navarrese, arrange a boat trip for the day (with seafood lunch) to Fico Cave or the Grotta del Fico, one of the most visited show caves in Sardinia. These spectacular caverns are reached 10 metres up from where you'll disembark on the jetty, for jaw-dropping views across the Gulf of Orosei and a possible peek at the elusive monk seals sunbathing on the coast. For more subterranean days, the Marmuri Caves are within an hour's drive inland to the south. Sardinia's Little Green Train is a rightly popular pick for travelling peacefully through the island's landscapes including green hills and the massif of Gennargentu, the highest point in Sardinia. Hail the train at Arbatax, about 20 minutes' drive away, for the splendidly scenic ride of 159 kilometres to Mandas. Paragliding and quad bike tours can be arranged at Baunei, 25 minutes by car to the north-east.
