Surrounded by the gentle countryside of the pretty Teramo hills, L'Officina dei Sogni (Italian for 'The Workshop of Dreams') is a rural campsite located beside the small village of Poggio Morello, nine kilometres (or 15 minutes' drive) from the beaches and seaside resorts of the stunning Adriatic coast. With a range of gorgeous views over the local area, plus an on-site garden and a shaded olive grove, this site will appeal to anyone who has an eye for the simple things in life, like spending time in nature with family and friends. This peaceful spot has basic facilities including communal toilet and shower facilities. As there's a bed and breakfast on the same site, it's also possible to have a good breakfast at L'Officina dei Sogni if you don't fancy preparing your own (this comes at an extra cost and should be requested in advance). Low-key local amenities like Poggio Morello's village bar and grocery store are very handy to have so close, and both are reachable within a few minutes on foot. The nearest full-size supermarkets are about a quarter of an hour away by road on the outskirts of Tortoreto.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or campervan pitch

Liked: We'll start with the host. Cinzia is a super warm person, always with a great smile and willing to assist in anything needed. She has a true "host" heart and that can be seen in all the details around the property, which will make anyone feel comfy. The place is on a beautiful hill, where you can enjoy an amazing view and sunsets. It is always clean and peaceful. It's 10m drive to the coast of Giulianova, and if you don't want to move much, they have a cute small pool to soak up and relax with your eyes set on the horizon. Even the nearby neighbour is super friendly, waving at you early in the morning with a calm "Buon giorno!" while he feeds his ducks and geese. Absolutely recommended! Local attractions

As the coast is less than 10 kilometres away, there's a good chance that you'll be spending quite a lot of time at the various beaches and resorts that stretch along this pretty part of the Adriatic Sea. There are lots of places to choose from within a 20-minute drive – all of them well-served by good restaurants, bustling bars and sandy swimming spots. Try and spend some time inland too, though, or you'll miss out on the area's handsome historic towns and villages. Abruzzo has a lot to choose from, including the walled town of Civitella del Tronto (25 minutes), Ascoli Piceno (40 minutes) with its famed Renaissance square or Campli (30 minutes) on the edge of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. For serious hikers, Gran Sasso mountain, the standout attraction of the national park, is just under an hour away. Those without the stamina for such outdoor pursuits (or those returning from them in the mood for a drink…) can head to any one of the many vineyards in the surrounding countryside and sample Abruzzo's renowned wines.
