Settle yourself between the sea and the mountains with a stay at Agricampeggio Mare Nostrum in Roseto degli Abruzzi, a beach resort 45 minutes’ drive from the Gran Sasso peak. This place is full of pretty greens and blues… it's in a shady poplar grove, and it makes the most of its Adriatic seafront location, too. There’s an area set up with sun loungers, deck chairs and parasols overlooking the water, so you don’t have to trek far for a relaxing spot with a fab view out over the waves. If your kids don’t really do the lazing-around thing, there’s a great big lawn where they can stretch their legs and play. For peace of mind (always welcome when travelling with tiddlers), the safety-conscious site is completely fenced in, with access only by electronic badges. There’s a farm attached to Mare Nostrum (not physically, but by association – it’s a family business), and you’ll be able to buy fresh, seasonal fruit and veg on site. Grab some other goodies from the town (there’s a bakery and supermarket) and head back to base to get the barbecue going for tasty meals in. For lazy eats, hit up Roseto degli Abruzzi’s bars and restaurants instead. There are toilets and showers on site, as well as handy stuff like a washing-up area, a washing machine and free wifi.

Liked: Helpful staff Nice shady site close to the sea. Clean facilities Water power and grey waste disposal on the pitch

Disliked: Quite close to a busy railway line. Not really complaints but be aware that the site is on a complex one way system and is easy to miss so you can end up going in circles. The showers need a token ( or two really) but are free and are also open topped. We were the only non-Italians on the site and as a result the manager’s English was limited( though better than my Italian.).

Liked: Really nice location, good food and drink prices . Shower facilities need a few tokens. Basic site, We had no issues. Staff helpful and we would stay again

Disliked: We preferred to shower in our van due to needed a few tokens for the shower and it was outside with a lack of places to hand towels ect. Most others didn't seem to mind. Not a major issue we would visit again

Local attractions

Time to head out and explore some more of Abruzzo? The site is linked to a pedestrian and cycling path that connects the various cities of the Teramana Coast; it covers more than 20 kilometres, so long walks and leisurely bike rides are fine choices for seeing the other nearby resorts. If you fancy some sightseeing without straying too far, an amble around the Giulianova harbour (a five-minute drive) makes for a nice stroll while admiring the boats. There’s also an art museum, Museo d'arte dello Splendore (10 minutes), which is spread over three floors. Borgo di Montepagano (10 minutes), a small hilltop town, is also worthy of a wander, as is the Villa Comunale (15 minutes), which has a gallery, library and pretty gardens to nose around. Further afield there’s the Fortezza di Civitella del Tronto fortress (45 minutes) and the Sanctuary of St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows (45 minutes), which is located at the foot of the Gran Sasso. Speaking of which, the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park is a good choice for wildlife spotting while hiking, mountain biking, horse riding or skiing. The park is also home to an artificial lake, Lago di Campotosto, which has a 50-kilometre trail along its perimeter – splendid for a scenic roam.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
