Hungry for the many thermal waters of Hungary? Pining for some peace and quiet, rest and relaxation? The very site for you is in the spa resort of Tamási – and the wine tasting tours, smashing scenery and active days out in the surrounding area should have you flowing here forthwith too. Run by Debs and Mark and 12 miles from Tamási off the main road from Pécs to Budapest, Hungarian Country Camping - Koppany Pines does what it says on its tin: no busy roads, clubs or discos here, just peace among pine trees and 500 metres from the local village of Koppányszántó in the heart of southern Transdanubia. It's said that if you sit quietly enough you're almost guaranteed to spot wild animals such as red deer, roe deer, foxes and passing birds. Among the well-maintained amenities at Tranquil Pines are loo and shower facilities, and a washing-up and barbecue area for when you want to mingle with other guests. If you really must stay in touch with the clamouring outside world, the park has free wifi. This is a land of thermal spas and healing waters, rivers, forests and quiet villages – but if you do want to get active in the area, Debs and Mark can arrange quad biking, horse riding, fishing, bike hire, birdwatching trips, seasonal hunting trips and guided walks all around: you might rather fancy the wine tasting tours too.

Local attractions

The area around Koppanyszanto has fine local wines at fine inexpensive prices, small peaceful villages, scenic surrounds and many an opp for active days out. The owners can give you info on walks, historic churches and cultural hotspots in the area: all will generally be pretty peaceful. But. These Hungarian parts are most known for their thermal spas and waters – did you know there are over 300 of such around all the country? And the waters of Tamási are known worldwide, mainly for their healthy and medicinal properties, high in sodium and calcium and said to soothe the pain of arthritis and rheumatism. The open-air bath here is open all year round and is one of the most popular spas in the country. With this park being part of the the protected Koppányvölgy Naturpark, forest trails for walking and cycling lead straight from the site. Just outside is the Koppányvölgyi hiking trail, almost 100 kilometres waiting to be explored on foot, by bicycle or by horse.
