Local attractions

The picturesque village of Ceyreste is made up of narrow streets lined with high walls to keep temperatures cool during the hot season. Admire the curious cabarottes walkways that span the alleyways and see the old bell tower atop of Saint Blaise. Ceyreste also offers a good choice of restaurants and is just one kilometre from the campsite. La Ciotat beaches are just three kilometres away and stretch for six kilometres. The small seaside resort has an old fishing port where you can take a boat trip to L'île Verte. The town of La Ciotat is famous for the footage shot here by the Lumières brothers (the grandfathers of modern-day cinema) in 1895, which featured the arrival of a train at La Ciotat train station. To the west side of the town, just ten minutes away down the Route des Crêtes, you can find the highest seaside cliff in Europe (394 metres). From the top it has excellent views and you can visit the beautiful botanical gardens of the Mugel. The coastal road that connects Cassis to La Ciotat overlooks the sea and offers an amazing panorama along the cliffs. Cassis is a lovely seaside resort located at the bottom of the Cap Canaille cliff. It has a picturesque port, and its docks are lined with cafés and restaurants. Cassis is connected to Marseilles by road (approximately 20 kilometres away) where you can stop and visit all the bays dotted along the coast between the two towns. There are lots of different walking routes available in the local area and the campsite offers access to 'Les balcons de Ceyreste' pathway which leads to the GR51 walking route along the French Riviera. Visit the local markets for local regional products from Provence including ceramics, soaps, wines, oils and food delicacies such as tapenade.
