Family-friendly campsite on the Vendée coast

Nine hundred metres from the sea and only three and a half kilometres from the big seaside resort of Les Sables d'Olonne is the pleasant state of affairs at Camping Le Petit Paris, on the Vendeé coast in France's Pay de la Loire. (And if you like to save all your energy for a long day of lying on the sands, a free shuttle service runs from campsite to beach in July and August.) Le Petit Paris is a firmly family-friendly site, with a bouncy castle, a playground, evening entertainment in July and August suitable for all sizes, and a paddling pool for smalls alongside the main heated indoor pool and waterslides. A multisports field is to hand if the kids need tuckered out a bit further. Other facilities include a games room, a shop, a launderette and a snack bar serving bites, ice cream and takeaway.

Local attractions

The blue blue sea of the Vendeé is less than a kilometre from Camping Le Petit Paris and the beach within three and a half. Several marked cycling paths and many a walking trail is around in the area too; ask the Le Petit Paris team for its recommendations and/or pick up a Picnic in the Vendée card from Les Sables d'Olonne's tourist office for suggestions on the best scenic spots at which to sup up the sun (et some vin). Five adventure parks are around in the Vendée for those who fancy a more adrenalising experience: Indian Forest, near Moutiers le Mauxfait; the aerial assault course at Mervent Forest in the Mervent-Vouvant Forest; Feeling Forest in St.Hilaire de Riez; laser games at 201 Forest Avenue in Sion-sur-l'Ocean; paintball in the parkland at Tépacap in Mesnard la Barotiere, and ziplines and paintball at Le Grand Defi in St Julien-des-Landes. Also family focused in the area, the Zoo des Sables d'Olonne, Sealand and the Seventh Continent aquariums are all excellent options, or for grownup pursuits you could try the golf courses, the casinos, the canalboat trips of the Venise Verte on the wetland of the Marais Poitevin...
