  • Close to the Spanish border and five minutes' drive from Céret
  • Half an hour's drive from the Mediterranean coast
  • Hiking paths, spa, playground, library, shop and bakery
Have a peaceful stay close to the coast and in the foothills of the Pyrénées with a hol at Camping Les Cerisiers, in scenic setting five minutes’ drive from the Pyrénées-Orientales town of Céret. Céret was once the capital of the Catalan comarque of Vallespir, and you can zip over into Spain with ease from here: the border is about kilometres away and Figueres is 45 minutes’ drive to the south. Staying on the French side, the Mediterranean coast at the likes of Argelès-sur-Mer is within half an hour. Hire a bike from the team to set off on the trails around the site, to pedal off into Céret or to tackle the greenway a kilometre away. Hiking paths lead from the grounds… or you could take yourself into the trees at the local forest adventure park, or clamber up the nearby mountains… or take it nice and easy indeed with an hour or three in the spas of Amélie-Les-Bains 20 minutes away. A horse riding centre is a kilometre and a half away. Facilities on site include a spa, a playground, a TV room, table tennis, a library and summer entertainment. There’s also a well-stocked shop, a bakery and a barbecue area. The site welcomes pets.

Local attractions

Make tracks for arty Céret, home to many an artist including Picasso: there’s an acclaimed modern art museum in town and Céret's Café Pablo is named after the man himself. Lots of these arty types congregated in Céret’s Grand Café in the early 20th century: it’s still open today, so have an hour or two there feeling talented with your sketchbook. Céret is also famed for its bull running festival, held on the weekend closest to Bastille Day (14 July) and for its communal dances or sardanes, where local dancers regularly turn up to informal soirees. If you’re around in summer, an arts and crafts market is held every Tuesday night; for foodie fare including local olives, sausages and cheese, the weekly Céret market is every Saturday. If you’re feeling active, a watersports and forest park awaits at Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts (20 minutes); if not, submerge your deserving self in the waters of Boulou, a spa town 10 minutes’ drive away. And if you wish to see sands and sea – as you rightly should if you’re anywhere in these parts? Pack your beach towel and your book for days at the Mediterranean beaches of Argelès-sur-Mer (30 minutes), Collioure (35 minutes) and Saint-Cyprien (40 minutes).
