  • Unusual Finistère stays in a completely transparent plastic bubble
  • Concarneau and Quimper within a half-hour drive
  • Stunning views by day and night; private indoor hot tub area
If you simply can’t get enough of those outdoor views while you’re on holiday, then this is the place for you. Geodesic domes have become popular recently among guests who’d like clear views of the night sky as they sleep, but this place goes one step beyond… at La Bulle de Clotilde you’ll be staying in a ‘bubble’ that’s completely transparent all around. Yes, this is a special setup indeed, giving you 360-degree views of the skies, the trees and what’s going on at ground level at all hours of day and night in this lovely corner of the Brittany countryside. The bubble has been set up in a peaceful and private space on the edge of the woods and close to a small river, so it’s highly likely you’ll spot some wildlife while you’re here. The bubble’s designed to replicate the wonders of sleeping right out in the open, but with a whole lot of extra comfort. It’s been set up on a wooden deck, so everything is nice and sturdy underfoot, and you’ll be sleeping in a proper double bed (made up ready for your arrival). Indoor and outdoor seating is provided, and out on your deck is a little toilet hut (this part is not transparent in any way, you’ll be pleased to hear…) If the concept of spending your whole life out in the open is a little bewildering, don’t worry – there is also some indoor space available, in the rather lovely form of your own little stone building with comfy seating, a pool table and a hot tub. Ways to fill your days? This location near Tourch is a handy one for all sorts of Finistère outings including Quimper and the beaches around Concarneau.

Local attractions

Quimper (25 minutes’ drive) is a good place for a day of wandering – you can visit the pottery museum, stroll among the half-timbered houses of the medieval quarter and gaze up at the cathedral’s stained-glass windows before browsing the markets or chilling out in Jardin de la Retraite. Concarneau (25 minutes) is another good place to explore, with a gorgeous walled town, a busy harbour and a fishing museum as well as lovely sandy beaches with plenty of watersports. It’s also the boarding point for boat trips to the stunning seascapes of the Glénan Islands. Elsewhere around the area, you may like to take in a castle and gardens at Domaine de Trévarez (25 minutes), see the amazing life-size statues flanking a drive through the Valley of Saints (an hour) or take a wander through the scenery of Les Roches Du Diable (45 minutes).
