  • Welcoming family site within 600 metres of a golden sandy beach
  • A 10-minute drive from the old fishing port of Guilvinec
  • Heated waterpark, Jacuzzi, sunbathing area, playgrounds and snack bar
You may not feel driven while on hol to take the car to the seaside. How handy then that Camping La Grande Plage is within sauntering distance of a fine sandy beach: get here, get the beach towel out, then run towards the coast for long sandy days. The beach is La Goudoul, one of the several golden stretches of sand in southern Finistère that anyone with sense could settle down by for weeks – have a squint at the site pics to see just how splendid it is. The surrounding Brittany commune of Plobannalec-Lesconil has lengthy kilometres of other sands for you to sprawl at, as well as towering sand dunes to hike up (and roll down), and surf schools to hand if you're new to riding the waves. If you ever get off the sands, out of the sea or off your board, Camping La Grande Plage is near the village of La Torche and the fishing port of Guilvinec for other Brittany adventures, and is within easy reach of Quimper, the Glénan Islands, the GR 34 hiking path... For day trips, your beach base has you under an hour from Concarneau and Pont-Aven; Carnac is an hour and 35 minutes away. And in among all this roaming? Splash around on site at the Camping La Grande Plage waterpark, where there's a main pool, Jacuzzi, waterslides and a paddling pool as well as deckchairs all around for idle hours after your dip or slide. Regular entertainment runs in high season if you still don't care to expend much energy; playgrounds await to occupy the kids, and there's a games room indoors if you want to retreat from the sun. A snack bar is on site to sort eats all the day long, from pancakes and ice cream to pizza and roast chicken.

Local attractions

Sand, sea and watersports: sorted. The Finistère region has 1,200 kilometres of coastline for you to hike along, sunbathe and swim at, and look for your own secret spot among the tiny hidden coves. Sailing, surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, sea and river kayaking, diving and fishing are all close by. Plobannalec-Lesconil has four sheltered beaches especially suitable for families: the big and small beaches of Goudol within ambling distance of the site; Quatre Vents, 10 minutes' drive away, and Sables Blanc (45 minutes), a top Pink Granite Coast home for sand dunes, kitesurfing and shellfish foraging. Another spectacular seaside spot is Bénodet (25 minutes), for more beaches, a handsome harbour and a swish thalassotherapy centre. Inland, it's 10 minutes' drive north to Pont l'Abbé, the unofficial capital of the traditional Bigouden region and a mighty pretty place for waterside wanders. Drop into the Bigouden museum while you're there, for a delve into Breton history, culture and costume.
