  • Eco-friendly family site 10 minutes' drive from Guingamp
  • Half an hour's drive from beaches and the Pink Granite Coast
  • On the Trieux river for canoeing, swimming and trout fishing
As wholesome family hols go, Camping Milin Kerhe has things well sorted. This Brittany site 10 minutes’ drive from Guingamp is surrounded by woods and bordered by the Trieux river, with all sorts of nature-based antics on hand for nippers and grownups alike. When they set up here, the owners were keen to embrace their natural environment as much as poss, so they’ve kept the place full of native plants and free of loads of electric lights. The result is a place where you can spend your days looking out for dragonflies, red squirrels and kingfishers, fishing or splashing about in the river or feeding the farm animals, and your evenings gazing up into the starry skies. Once you’ve poked about on site for a bit you might like to expand your horizons a little – that’s easily done by heading out onto the bike trails and footpaths that run through the neighbouring woods, or borrowing a canoe or paddleboard on site to potter along the river. It’s not all back to nature though – the site also has a pétanque court, volleyball court, table tennis, a collection of traditional games and a shop selling yummy local ice creams. Come along in high season for social events and organised activities too: a weekly barbecue, pizza nights, raft building, crafts and bat spotting are often on the menu.

Local attractions

For more nature-based activities, you can wade out into the river to fish for salmon or trout, venture up into the treetops at the Indian Forest adventure park 40 minutes away or saddle up for a ride from one of the stables within a half-hour drive. Leave the river behind for a bit and take the half-hour drive to the coast for a different set of watery views: there are fab sandy beaches at Plage Bonaparte and around Plougrescant, and some gorgeous sights to be seen along the Pink Granite Coast (perhaps best viewed on a coastal stroll from the little town of Ploumanac’h, 50 minutes away). For town time, stick by the coast for the cobbled streets and seafood restaurants of Paimpol and Treguier or head downstream to Pontrieux for boat trips to see the medieval buildings. Also by the river are the fortified mansion and gardens of Château de la Roche-Jagu (25 minutes from the site).
