  • Cozy site surrounded by forest and a 10-minute drive to the North Sea
  • Tipperne and Værneengene peninsula 10 minutes; Legoland around 1 hour
  • Hot tub, pancake wagon on site and campfires permitted
Nautical navigators, ahoy: this cosy Danish site in the municipality of Varde is less than a 10-minute drive from the North Sea, in a wild area on the west coast of Jutland. Twitchers, it’s birdwatching heaven too: as the last stop before Tipperne and Værneengene peninsula, this park is close to a key gathering ground for migratory birds including curlews, sandpipers and golden plovers. The surrounding forest is a fab place to seek winged creatures as well... or simply a stellar locale for setting off on walks and cycle rides. Got a penchant for pancakes? Tipperne Camping og Hytter is also for you. Waking up to the aroma of these hot, fresh goodies from the on-site wagon every morning is a great way to end your slumber and kick off the day. Evening eats, meanwhile, can be cooked on the campfires permitted in the park… and you can use the flames to heat yourself up as you spot stars in the pollution-free skies. If you’re still feeling the chill, the hot tub is a warm welcome home after intrepid explores. When morning comes around, head off on a hike along the North Sea coastline, a 10-minute drive from the park, or seek out sweeping sandy beaches such as Henne Mølle, a 25-minute journey away. Hunting’s possible in the local area too; all you need to do is tap up the site’s welcoming owners for their top tips on where to go.

Local attractions

Denmark’s famed for its Viking roots and you can get a sneak peek of what life was like back in the eighth to 11th centuries with a visit to Bork Vikingehavn’s replica Norse-era houses and harbour, a 10-minute drive from the park. Sticking with Bork, the nearest town to the site, kids can bounce around on the indoor soft play set up at the Legoland centre (also 10 minutes away). Out in the open air, the Elipsebroen walking trail starts 20 minutes from site, while Ringkøbing Fjord, a shallow lagoon popular for fishing perch, roach and pike – as well as that very Danish delicacy, herring – is a 25-minute drive away. Another fave in Denmark (well, worldwide, really) is Legoland Billund, the original Legoland theme park, reachable in an hour and 5 minutes for family-friendly rides to whizz down and imaginary lands to cavort around. Fancy being cultural instead? Stroll around the cobbled streets of medieval Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town, an hour and 10 minutes south.
