  • Family-friendly site by a water mill on the banks of the Jihlava river
  • Haven for explorers: walking and cycling routes start on site
  • Half an hour from Jihlava; an hour from Brno; two hours from Prague
Does your dream holiday involve more go-go-go than sit-sit-sit? Dream no more… At Kratochvil Molen Camping, a family-friendly site less than 10 minutes’ drive from the village of Číhalín in the Vysočina region of the Czech Republic, you’re sure to be kept busy and active for your entire stay. Kratochvil Molen is a top spot for exploring this part of the Czech Republic – there are plenty of walking and cycling trails starting from the site and more challenging hiking and mountain-biking trails can be followed nearby. The site – home to a water mill – is on the banks of the Jihlavi river, so you can take a dip and try out canoeing or, for something more relaxed, pull up a bit of riverbank and cast a line. If you’re tempted away from the river, send the kids off to enjoy the bouncy cushions, slides and playground while you have a game of football or put your feet up in the TV room. When you’re feeling peckish, make your way to the on-site restaurant where you can order from a small menu, then relax after your meal by meeting your fellow guests on the terrace or getting cosy at the bar. Fend for yourself by firing up the barbecue and piling it high with supplies from the grocery store less than 10 minutes away or, if you’d prefer to venture outside Kratochvil Molen, there are plenty of restaurants within 20 minutes of the site.

Local attractions

Kratochvil Molen Camping is a prime base for getting to grips with the culture and history of the Czech Republic. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Třebíč, 20 minutes’ drive from the site, for the St Prokop Basilica, Jewish cemetery and Jewish Quarter, then explore the rest of the town for museums, castles and stunning old buildings. Further afield, in Telč (another UNESCO site), you can stroll around the Renaissance château and the stunning Baroque and Renaissance town square (definitely one for the ‘Gram) then, half an hour from Kratochvil Molen, build your historical wanderings to a crescendo at the House of (famed composer) Gustav Mahler. Kids who may not be au fait with the ins and outs of Renaissance architecture or late-Romantic classical music may be happier with trips to Vodní Ráj water park or Jihlava zoo (both around 40 minutes from site) – stick around Jihlava if you’re in need of some urban diversion, or pile the family into the car for longer excursions to Brno, Prague or Vienna.
