  • Family site by a forest on the edge of Benešov village
  • A 15-minute drive to Boskovice; less than an hour to Brno and Olomouc
  • Swimming pool, playground, bar and campfire area
Make a base at rural site Camping de Bongerd and get set for all sorts of days out: it's not just the splendid South Moravia countryside you’ll have easy access to but also a clutch of castles and city wanders too… This family-friendly site is a great location for exploring the local area: you can walk straight out into the forest behind the site, set out on mountain bike routes or find places for horse riding, canoeing and climbing. A swimming lake is four kilometres away, with watersports kit to rent too. If you’re up for exploring further afield it may be handy to know that there’s a bus stop in the village with connections to Boskovice for day trips to Brno. As well as being handy for getting out and about, this is also a great location for simply relaxing on site: there’s a large swimming pool with a waterslide, a playground with table tennis, a free wifi service, a cosy bar and a library of books to borrow. A small snack bar serves up Dutch-style eats and there’s a campfire area where you can gather to keep warm and socialise of an evening. All the essentials are provided here too: the site has a launderette, a small shop, a washing-up area and toilets and showers. For supplies, that location comes in handy again – Camping de Bongerd is just on the edge of the village of Benešov (a small place, but big enough to have a restaurant, a bakery and a mini supermarket).

Local attractions

If you’re here very much for the outdoor activity, you may like to start at the local golf course (five minutes’ drive away). If that’s not your style, perhaps aim instead for a hike around Macocha Gorge (half an hour), an explore of the cave system at Sloupsko-šošůvské Cave (15 minutes) or an afternoon on the waterslides at Waterpark Koupelky (half an hour). There’s a great list of heritage sites to visit nearby too: both the ruined Holštejn Castle and the rather grander Kunštát Castle are within a half-hour drive, and historic Boskovice (15 minutes) has a Gothic castle, a smarter château and an intriguing Jewish quarter to explore (plus an outdoor pool, a small zoo and the unusual Wild West Town park if the kids have had enough of all the history). A couple of cities should be on the schedule too: it’ll take you just under an hour to drive to either Brno – known as ‘Little Vienna’ for its cathedral, castle and squares – or Olomouc, where you can wander around the Old Town looking out for Baroque fountains.
