  • Dalmatia seafront site with access to beach on the Karin Sea
  • Zadar and Kornati Islands boat trips within a half-hour drive
  • Playground, games room and watersports kit hire on site
Set up camp by what some call ‘the smallest sea in the world’… in reality the Karin Sea is actually an isolated part of the Adriatic, but there’s no arguing about the fact that Kamp Karin is right on the shoreline. This Dalmatia site is in a particularly pretty beachfront spot between the gorgeously clear sea water and the ancient pinewood trees; and it’s also a most handy spot, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the little village of Donji Karin, which has cafés, restaurants and a small supermarket. For more amenities, a 15-minute drive gets you to Benkovac for a supermarket, a popular farmers’ market, cultural events and various amenities. The area around the site is splendid for those seeking some outdoors time – as well as easy access to the beach (for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing and sailing as well as just chilling out), there are lots of walking and cycling routes around – with treats along the way in the form of fresh fruits and local olive oil to purchase. Pampering is possible too at the area’s natural mineral mud baths. On site, all sorts of handy facilities are provided, including a playground and games room to keep the small travellers busy, plus a launderette, dog park and wifi connection. You can hire paddleboards and kayaks on site too for a bit of watery exploration. Safety and security are taken seriously at this site – it’s got a secure boundary fence and full-time night guard so you can sleep soundly, and reception’s open all day with multilingual staff to help out with any problems.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Disliked: Niets

Local attractions

This part of the world is stacked with splendid scenery – and you’ll be well placed to see lots of it from Kamp Karin. Start locally with an outing to see the ruins of Novigrad Castle (15 minutes’ drive), up on a windswept clifftop, then move on to the colourful underground grottos at Cerovacke Caves (45 minutes). For views mixed up with activity, there are some gorgeous canoe and raft trips through Zrmanja Canyon (half an hour) or hikes by the waterfalls in Krka National Park (45 minutes). Intrepid types may also choose to bungee jump at Maslenica bridge (25 minutes). Croatia’s national parks are well known for their stunning views, so it may also be worth trying to get in outings to the Kornati National Park (take a boat from Biograd, half an hour away) and Plitvice Lakes National Park (an hour and 20 minutes). If urban strolls are more your thing, aim instead for Zadar (half an hour) and Šibenik, with its UNESCO-listed cathedral (50 minutes).
