La Negrita is a rural retreat near Sacramento, in the province of Heredia. The cabins and garden have views of the Central Valley, and Barva Volcano is just a few kilometres away. There are two rentals on site. A cosy open-plan cabin, sleeping four, has a bed mezzanine, bathroom and fully equipped kitchen with firewood stove. Nearby is a converted metal container sleeping two in a double bed and with its own bathroom. There is no TV or internet on site. Outside, guests have access to a 2.5-acre shared garden and are welcome to eat the fruit that grows on site (in season). The garden has trails, a small creek and gazebo/deck areas where you can relax in hammocks or play on the trampoline.

Barva Volcano Park (6km away) has several hiking trails around the dormant volcano and through cloud forest to lagoons. At Poás Volcano National Park (40 km away) you can see geothermal activity such as geysers and search for birds such as the colourful quetzal. Paseo de las Flores Mall in Heredia town (16km away) has more than 300 shops and restaurants to explore. 20 km from Refugio de Vida Silvestre Cerro Dantas has numerous trails for exploring the cloud forest and its cliffs, waterfalls and abundant bird and plant life. Volcan Barva Canopy Adventure (15 minutes away) has zipwires between platforms in the forest canopy (suitable for adults and children of all ages).
