  • Family holiday park 10 minutes’ walk from Cable Beach in Broome, WA
  • Gateway to tours of the Kimberley Wilderness
  • Shaded caravan pitches; swimming pool; mini golf; shop and café
Spacious pitches shaded by trees, a pool surrounded by tropical gardens and access to a sandy beach sound right up your street? Best head for RAC Cable Beach Holiday Park, set between the fabled Cable Beach and central Broome on Western Australia’s spectacular Indian Ocean coastline. With Cable Beach a 10-minute stroll away, staying at this site puts you close to dips in turquoise seas (the beach has lifeguards between May and October) as well as camel rides along pristine white sands at sunset. A five-minute drive away, historic Broome is gateway to adventures in WA’s rugged Kimberley region. Back at the holiday park, all is happily family friendly, with guest laundry facilities to have you all looking shipshape, and a barbecue area for keeping everyone fed and watered. If you’re dodging the cooking (it’s your holiday after all), you’ll be pleased to note that the neighbouring Cable Beach General Store and Café is open seven days a week for snacks, groceries and beach essentials. For serious stocking up on provisions, head for supermarkets in central Broome. Having a leisurely day on the park? Play a round of mini golf (fees apply) with the kids, or have a splash in the aforementioned saltwater swimming pool before chilling on the deck planted with palm trees.

Local attractions

As a former pearling town, multicultural Broome (five minutes’ drive) showcases its legacy at Pearl Luggers Broome, where you can see restored dive boats and archive footage of pearl divers at work. Catch more local heritage at the Broome Historical Museum as you tour the old sailmakers’ shed and 19th-century customs house. If you’re looking for souvenirs of your stay, browse the town’s pearl showrooms or potter around the craft stalls at lively Broome Courthouse Markets (open Thursday evening, Saturday and Sunday). The town is also known for its galleries, where you can pick up indigenous art and local landscapes. To get the kids acquainted with local wildlife, make for Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Park (15 minutes), where you’ll encounter saltwater crocodiles, dingoes and kangaroos. Looking to explore further afield? Book a guided day trip into the gigantic Kimberley Wilderness to experience the red rock of the desert and swim underneath dramatic waterfalls.
