  • Family-run dog-friendly caravan park on the banks of the River Severn
  • Montgomery, Welshpool and Newtown all under 15 minutes’ drive away
  • Golf course and restaurant next door; fishing and canoeing activities
Mix and match golf, canal strolls and canoeing in the Mid Wales countryside… at Argae Hall Caravan Park, you'll be staying in a level touring field with mature trees and hedges on the banks of the River Severn. That location means you can launch a canoe on the river or slide next door for the site’s nine-hole golf course and driving range, followed by a meal or a drink on the patio in the modern clubhouse (no dogs except guide dogs) and restaurant with valley views – that’s coffee, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner sorted. An on-site pub is also available on Fridays and Saturdays. Foodies will find plenty for their tastebuds… Montgomery, Welshpool and Newtown are all under 15 minutes’ drive away for meals out. Shopping is a treat in Newtown and Welshpool and if it’s a scenic town you’re after, Montgomery has timber-framed houses, Georgian and Victorian architecture and the historic Montgomery Castle with fab views over the Shropshire Hills. Add in some more activities… adventuring through the Mid Wales landscape or strolls along the peaceful Montgomeryshire Canal a few minutes’ walk away? The canal walk reaches Berriw's black and white cottages, church and the river Rhiw. Options on site include fishing or canoeing (also available on the private lake at their sister site) and a playground, football field and designated dog walking area (a maximum of two dogs are permitted per caravan). For facilities, the family-run site has electric hook-ups, a toilet and shower block with underfloor heating and level-access showers, washing-up areas, water and chemical disposal points plus a launderette with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Liked: Friendly welcome. Lovely walks along canal. On bank of River Severn. Easy access off main A road but far enough away for it not to disturb peace. Lovely cream tea at The Nags Head at top of road - best scones tasted in a long while.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Well organised, very clean, great onsite club serving drinks and food. Welcomed straight away and shown to our pitch. We played pool in the clubhouse in the evening and enjoyed a drink.

Disliked: Not a ‘dislike’ as such, but toilet wise there were only 2 women's cubicles, and 2 men’s cubicles. If it would have been improved it would nice to have a few more. Fine in October, but in the summer it may be a little busier.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Site was clean and well looked after. The man who booked us in was nice and friendly.

Disliked: Toilets block weren’t cleaned every day . Only twice in the week we were there. So bins over flowed and toilet roll ran out. Although there was a number to call on the reception door there was never anyone there just to ask questions ( like where is the best place etc) don’t feel you can call for this sort of thing , no times

Local attractions

With garden terraces and a museum, the medieval Powis Castle and Garden (15 minutes’ drive) might feel a way away from the modern day. There are lots more ways to get familiar with the local history too, from The Old Station (10 minutes) in Welshpool to nostalgic trips along the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (20 minutes) or tracing the route of an eighth-century dyke along the 60-mile Offa’s Dyke Path (around five minutes). At the same time, there’s plenty to root you in the present. Perhaps you'd like to try the watersports on Lake Vyrnwy (50 minutes) on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park… or nearby tracks around the Berwyn Mountains and the spectacular Pistyll Rhaeadr (55 minutes) waterfall. Hike up your heart rate with more routes around the Shropshire Hills (around half an hour) or up the stakes a little with paintball and quad biking at Border Quad Trekking (25 minutes). Meanwhile, The Flash Leisure Centre (10 minutes) has a swimming pool, exercise classes and café for a nice brew afterwards.
