  • Peaceful meadow site in the Powys countryside near Welshpool
  • A 20-minute drive to Powis Castle; Snowdonia National Park 50 minutes
  • Offa’s Dyke Path on site; pubs and a shop within walking distance
A small and peaceful family-run site in Powys, Hayfield Glamping and Camping is in pole position for exploring Mid Wales, sitting between Welshpool, Oswestry and Shrewsbury. It’s in a rural location surrounded by poplar trees and yet easily accessible off the A483 – and right on the Offa’s Dyke Path if you fancy exploring on foot. To add to the quiet, wild vibe of the place, there is no wifi connection or electricity on site. Hunker down around the firepit – well-behaved pooches are welcome to join you too. Firewood can be purchased on site. If you do need to get back in touch with the world, never fear because emergency phone charging is on-hand. So you can cook on site, pick up supplies in the convenience store in Four Crosses (five minutes’ walk). If you’re also keen to sample some top local grub, there are fine country pubs, a Chinese takeaway and a fish and chip shop in the village too.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really enjoyed my stay here, a very friendly welcome to the site & all the facilities you'd want. The toilets and showers looked brand new and all worked great (with hot water!). It's a small, serene site just off Offa's Dyke Path, so a great place to stop in for the night :)

Bell tent

Liked: The owners were amazing. Very friendly and welcoming, on hand if we needed anything and couldn’t do enough for us. Enjoyed using the fire pit to toast our marshmallows each night. Very handy that they supply plenty of wood for the fire and the fire pit. Used the gas cooker supplied it was under a canopy next to the teepee with outdoor chairs, very easy to use. Very close to the facilities so was handy taking my little boy to the toilet in the middle of the night. Only a 8-10 minute drive from a number of pubs, cross guns was very good for our evening meal.

Disliked: No local pub to walk to but I didn’t mind the short drive and the ones that were close by were very nice.

2 bedroom rental tent

Liked: Spacious tent for the 4 of us with all the equipment we needed to enjoy the camping experience (chairs, mugs, cups, plates, gas stove etc.). Shower and toilet facilities were spot on and clean, just lacking in the amount there was within the campsite. Hosts were extremely helpful, providing us with a brand new airbed when one of them went down. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a proper camping experience but are lacking in the equipment to do so.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Beautifully presented site the attention to detail, scenery and host family made our break away truly relaxing. Phil and family made us feel so welcome, treated our 6 year old to surprise marshmallows for toasting and really made it feel home from home. The brilliantly kept toilet and showers appear simple at first but best shower I've had whilst camping and kept spotless. Will happily make sure we return and will be recommending to friends.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site was great, only small and really well kept think there was 7 pitches. Fire pit and bench on the pitch which was ideal, saved getting them out the van. The owner Phil couldn’t do enough, even offered to help carry our things to our pitch which was probably 100 yards from the car park. There is a secure field which would of been good if we had brought the dog, bags of wood are quality too only 6 quid. Would definitely go back.

Disliked: Could park on your pitch, which is different but wasn’t it even too bad, makes it the difference in how well the pitches are kept!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Hidden gem! Beautiful, quiet, well kept, small site. Immaculately clean toilet, hot shower and washing facilities (cleaned daily). Phil is a friendly, helpful chap and nothing is too much trouble. He and his wife clearly care for their site and want those camping to enjoy their stay. Each pitch is level, with plenty of space - well distanced, providing privacy. Benches and tables provided, with logs available to purchase on site for use of the fire pits. Local village has plenty of facilities, petrol station and takeaways, if needed. Perfect location to explore mid and North Wales. We have already booked to return in September!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice level site with plenty of space. Adequate facilities for a solo hiker on Offa's Dyke. There is a Morrisons supermarket in the village, so easy to resupply and get fresh sandwiches the next day. The facilities at the site include hot shower and toilet and wash basin. Simple but clean and practical. Remember to take a head torch when using the loo at night. Barely a stone's throw from the Path, which was great.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Everything! We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived, good correspondence prior to our arrival. Phil was extremely helpful, even helped carry my dads tent. 👍🏻 The site is lovely and peaceful, the facilities are spotless and a nice hot shower. A perfect spot to explore Offas Dyke and Snowdonia. We will definitely be back later in the season. Many thanks and all the best, Matt, Mick & Tess 🐾

Local attractions

Four Crosses is right on Offa’s Dyke Path, making it an ideal stopover for serious hikers. If you’re hoping to venture into the wilder countryside of Mid Wales, head for the Berwyn Hills (40 minutes’ drive) for challenging rambles, or you can head further north to Snowdonia National Park (50 minutes). If you’d like to up the culture factor, Limeworks Heritage Area (five minutes) reveals a landscape shaped by quarrying and is home to a rare Hoffmann lime kiln. Welshpool (15 minutes) is a cute Georgian market town with waterside walks along 18th-century Montgomery Canal and a cluster of local history museums to dip into. Close by you can visit not one – but two – National Trust properties with celebrated formal gardens – both Powis (20 minutes) and Chirk (30 minutes) castles have equally impressive interiors open for tours. If the kids are fretting at all this talk of history, give them a day of animal encounters, tractor rides and outdoor play at Park Hall Countryside Experience (20 minutes), where they can burn off energy safely. If they’re still over-full of beans, book tubing sessions on the Dee river at Llangollen (35 minutes) to really wear them out.
