  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
  • Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Owner of site was incredibly helpful as we arrived in dreadful weather. He made sure I didn't sink my tyres in the grass and really helpful and kind to my sister, whose campervan fan belt and pulley broke on her way in. He organised a local garage to sort her repair, was more helpful than the AA, and moved my camper back out of the grass the following day. The toilet and shower facilities are all brand new, modern and clean. You need a £1 for the shower. Washing up area is available. The weather was so terrible we had little chance to explore, but the views look like they could be incredible over Cardigan Bay on a less gales and side ways rain visit. Nicely laid out pitches with plenty of room and EHU if required. If I'm that way again, I'd return.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: I was so looked after here , I broke down and limped into the site , the farmer not only completely reassured me he assured me he would help get me sorted , he checked my van / got his son to come and check on us and contacted a friend who has a local garage ,, I left my keys the next day and continued our holiday with my sister who I was travelling with and the farmer arranged my van getting to the garage and the sourcing of parts and repair for me to be able to collect later on our trip !!! He was so helpful and so calm when I was so worried and upset ,,, he truly went above and beyond and is a true gentleman

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The view

Disliked: The road to the site was very narrow and badly signposted. The pitches were not level and there were only 2 showers and 2 toilets for men and the same for women.sometimes would take your money and no hot water was supplied. Pretty grim.

From the manager: We Are located 0.9 miles along a country lane typical of sites in the area. This leads to a lovely. peaceful, well kept campsite with the most stunning 180 degree views over Cardigan Bay. There are 8 passing places along the approach lane. We are not signposted but clear directions are always provided to the customer the day before arrival. We have received absolutely no complaints about the supply of hot water to the showers, if there were to be a problem then the best approach would be to contact us to resolve any issues rather than to leave negative comments after the event. Suspect customer error in operation. Left lowest scores possible for activities-we are a quiet peaceful site and do not describe ourselves as anything else-we are not a Haven type camp. Lowest score possible for customer services-difficult to understand as we are happy and always willing to go above and beyond for our guests. Lowest score possible for child friendliness-elderly couple with no children!! Lowest score possible for wi-fi-we do not advertise as having wi-fi as is stated in Pitchup. Low scores given clearly to bring our ratings down. Suspect that the main issue with this couple lies within the fact that the weather was dreadful during their stay which has led to an unfavourable, biased view of our lovely little campsite

Owner Nigel was friendly and helpful. Beautiful views and quiet site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The site is clean and tidy, and the views out over the sea are spectacular! The sunsets we had were glorious. As previously stated the access to this site is down a narrow lane but means that you are well away from any noise from other road users. Showers take 20p or £1 coins and are timed at 10mins to prevent over use! Tbh we were both out before our £1 ran out.

Disliked: Not a fan of paying for showers but it wasn’t extortionate and they were hot. Washing facility water was not very hot.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your positive review. We do make a small charge for the use of the showers, whilst this does not cover the whole cost to us it helps to prevent over-use and abuse. Unfortunately when we provided free showering facilities we found guests washing dogs, wetsuits and even pots and pans in them! It We also found guests taking an exceptionally long time in them leading to queues forming. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us-welcome back anytime.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Beautiful sea views with plenty of space on the pitches. The pitches are a decent size. There are lots of small stones in the ground (which meant that it was not muddy.) The site is just under 2 miles from Newquay, there is access to the coast path which crosses a couple of fields first. (These were very muddy when we were there.) Newquay is also accessible by road which is walkable but narrow. There is a playground for children, and a dedicated field for dogs to be exercised. The owners are friendly and very helpful.

Disliked: The stones in the ground stopped any surface mud, but also meant that hard ground pegs were required as standard ones will bend. It's probably worth adding this to the information on pitch up. There are only 2 female toilets, 2 female showers and 2 washing up sinks for the whole site. The site wasn't busy but there were queues on occasion, so that must be a problem in the summer months. I can't comment on the men's facilities. The lane to the main road is single track and doesn't have many passing places. Price is per pitch, not per person, so it works out proportionately more expensive for single campers than for families. There was no wifi, but that didn't bother me.

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
