  • Well-equipped bell tent at a scenic and secluded Ceredigion spot
  • A 10-minute drive to Cardigan or Mwnt beach; 20 mins to Poppit Sands
  • Access to private kitchen and bathroom facilities next to the tent
There’s lovely scenery all around at Byd o Les, and you’ll have plenty of space, peace and privacy from which to soak it all up – there’s just the one bell tent here, in its own secluded corner of a Ceredigion caravan and camping site 10 minutes’ drive from Cardigan. The views are fabulous, and so is the tent itself – much effort has gone into making it a comfortable and well-appointed space sleeping up to four (in a double bed and two singles). Bed linen is provided for all these beds, as is a selection of furniture including a couple of comfy chairs and a chest of drawers. The tent is off grid, but solar lighting and self-contained facilities mean you won’t miss the electricity at all. Just next to the tent, a characterful converted cattle box houses your private bathroom (with a toilet and gas-powered hot shower) and kitchen (with gas hob, running water and a top-quality cool box to keep all the essentials chilled). Penparc village is about a mile away for basic supplies, with more extensive shopping over in Cardigan. This is the kind of place where you could just sit back for hours to take in the views and keep an eye out for passing birds overhead (red kites, owls and woodpeckers are among the regular visitors). That said, it’s also an excellent base for exploring the Ceredigion coastline – several gorgeous beaches and coastal activities are very close by, and the A487 is a mile away to help you get around them all easily enough.

Local attractions

Intrigued by the idea of those beaches? You may like to start with a visit to Mwnt (10 minutes’ drive), where you can often spot seals and dolphins from the shoreline. Poppit Sands (20 minutes) is another great option (especially for surfers), as is the lovely little cove at Cwm-yr-Eglwys (half an hour). This stretch of the coast isn’t all about beaches though – there are also fine walks along the Ceredigion Coast Path, wildlife-spotting boat trips from New Quay (half an hour), coasteering adventures from Cardigan and amazing geological features like the Blue Lagoon in Abereiddy (an hour). You may also like to venture a little further to the cute city of St Davids (an hour), which has not only a cathedral but also a great surf beach and island boat trips. Away from the coast, you may like to check out the medieval ruins of Cilgerran Castle (15 minutes), meet otters and kingfishers at Welsh Wildlife Centre (20 minutes) or take a trip to Cenarth Falls and the National Coracle Centre (20 minutes).
