  • Luxury off-grid farm stay in a cabin handmade from recycled materials
  • A five-minute drive from Bonar Bridge; woodland walks from the site
  • Local produce sales; wildlife haven; mini kitchen and camp stove
Get off grid a five-minute drive from Sutherland’s bonny Bonar Bridge at Arda Glamping. During a stay at this site, you’ll level up on luxury in a handbuilt hut carved from recycled materials with stained glass windows from the 1930s... and a stargazer roof means you can even catch the Northern Lights from your kingsize bed’s memory foam mattress should they deign to make an appearance... Night-time entertainment sorted, guests can put their feet up surrounded by a 130 year old Caledonian pinewood forest or traipse off through the trees during the day (pack hiking boots: you’ll need to cross a small stream to get to the hut from the car park). The other side of the pretty clearing edges a croft where free-range chickens, pigs and horses roam. Set yourself up for adventuring with a big brekkie: you can order packs of local produce from the farm or cook up a meal on the cabin’s camp stove with ingredients from the butchers in Bonar Bridge. A mini kitchen is equipped with pans, crockery and cutlery; other useful amenities include a composting toilet, a shower stocked with locally made toiletries and cold water on tap, as well as towels, bedding, sheets, an extra blanket and a hot water bottle for nights when the gas fire alone doesn’t quite cut it... Outside the cabin, the raised deck is your spot for sitting by the woods while surrounded by rare orchids and moss. The paths you’ll need to stick to are marked, to help you avoid disturbing local wildlife and keep this lush place as pristine as possible.

Local attractions

Hikers should be happy with a stay at Arda Glamping: hillwalking and forest trails are available right from the croft, while mountain biking trails ranging in grade from blue to black are on hand to appeal to pedal pushers. Want to grace the greens? A sister golf course to the famed Royal Dornoch is five minutes away by car, overlooking Loch Migdale (a 10-minute drive) where guests can go wild swimming while having a gander at views of the Kyle of Sutherland. Dry off and check in with Arda Glamping’s knowledgeable owners: they're happy to dole out their top tips on which sections of the local coast are best for spotting bottlenose dolphins, orcas, humpback whales and grey seals. Or you could seek out creatures nearby: the site is 15 minutes from the salmon-filled Falls of Shin. If you fancy venturing up to the north coast, surfing beach Ceannabeinne is an hour and 45 minutes’ drive and has a zipwire to zoom across. Smoo Cave is along the road there for subterranean scouting about too.
