  • Luxurious family-friendly glamping pods in the Kyle of Sutherland
  • Walking distance from mountain biking trails, hikes and Kyle of Firth
  • Decking area with a barbecue; two miles from the North Coast 500 route
Picturing yourself on a break in Scotland, roaming forests and picnicking under the canopies? Wild swimming in lochs and tearing up mountain biking tracks? All of the above are on the table at Ardgay Glamping in the scenic Kyle of Sutherland. Within walking distance of Dornoch Firth, Kyle of Firth and mountain biking trails, this family-friendly glamping site won’t make it hard to find outdoor activities to get stuck into… Two miles from the North Coast 500 route, the luxury pods call the quiet, rural village of Ardgay home. There’s ample off-roading parking and for those of you arriving by bicycle, train or bus, there’s a lockable bike bothy, a train station five minutes’ walk away and a village bus stop the same distance. If you’re quick off the mark, you could soon be setting off on the local woodland walks and forest trails, teeing off on the Bonar Bridge, Ardgay Golf Club (25 minutes’ walk) or shredding up the mountain biking tracks at the Balblair MTB Trails (35 minutes’ walk). There are also rivers and lochs for wild water swimming or paddleboarding within a short drive or walk of the site. Perhaps most conveniently, there's boating, canoeing and fishing on the Kyle of Sutherland around half an hour’s walk away. If you’d rather explore your pod first, expect a double bed with pocket-sprung mattress and under-bed storage, a lounge area with a double sofa bed and a toilet and shower room with a shaving point and heated towel rail. The kitchenette has an induction hob, fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and microwave. The outside's just as lovely and includes a large decking with an under-the-cover gas barbecue, dining table and chairs – just what you need to enjoy the countryside views.

Local attractions

You may have already taken the reins and been canoeing or kayaking on the Kyle of Firth, but what should you try your hands at next? Perhaps sharpen your aim at The Highland Shooting Centre (20 minutes’ drive) or take on the huge golf course in Dornoch (20 minutes), followed by climbing the dunes at its excellent beach. Decide on one of the local whisky distilleries for a day of sampling and seeing how things work before the whisky reaches the bottle. Balblair Distillery (15 minutes), The Glenmorangie Distillery Co (20 minutes), Dalmore Distillery (half an hour) and Clynelish Distillery (40 minutes) are some of your options. For a poignant reminder of the Highlands history, visit Croick Church (20 minutes). Markets are held in Dornoch (20 minutes) and Lairg (15 minutes) in high season. Other must-see locations include lively Tain (20 minutes), the market town of Dingwall (40 minutes) and the city of Inverness (50 minutes).

Camping pod

Liked: The Ardgay pods are just delightful. Perfect comfort. We particularly loved sitting on the decking with a profusion of wild flowers dancing in the breeze with the barbeque going. Felt very welcome and at home, we really didn't want to leave! We will definitely be back and couldn't recommend it enough.

Camping pod

Liked: Fantastic stay at a fantastic venue. Such a well equipped pod with great bed, sofa, shower. Much better than any b&b or hotel we have stayed in. Will definitely plan on staying here if we are back in the area and have told all friends and family to bear them in mind if visiting in the area.

From the manager: Thank you Kate for your lovely review. Thank you for recommending us to your friends and family. We hope to host you again sometime. Kind regards, Jan & Paul
