  • Camping pods with views of Ben Kilbreck, Ben Hope and Ben Hee
  • A 10-minute drive from the Shin Falls and Balbair woods
  • Barbecues and firepits sold on site; private decking areas to relax
Your Highland escape is looking mighty fine at Lairg Glamping Pods, 40 minutes’ drive away from Lairg. With views of Ben Kilbreck, Ben Hope and Ben Hee, you’ll have an excellent backdrop for a morning brew on your decking, a barbecue dinner or a late-night firepit. The pods (or ‘snugs', as the site likes to call them) are named after the mountains in the distance and they’re all very cosy… Each pod has a convenient daybed that sleeps two guests, as well as a kitchen area with one gas hob, a sink, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. There’s a separate wet room with a spacious shower, toilet and sink (towels are provided) and a small TV, bedding, wifi and gas central heating. Humans aren’t the only visitors here. It's not unusual to spot red kites, woodpeckers, red squirrels, buzzards, hares and the occasional deer or black grouse. Two of the mountains in the distance are listed Munros, and there are lochs for views too. It’s a five-minute drive to Loch Shin and local villages from the site's quiet croft. All that might have you wondering what activities can be hunted down locally. Paddleboard hire, golf, fishing, birdwatching, hill walking or cycling are all excellent options, and you might want to visit a castle or whisky distillery. This is a handy location for a Highlands break, as it's in such a central spot. Each glamping pod has private parking, a fenced decking area with outdoor seating and comfy deckchairs available. Just purchase a disposable barbecue or a firepit from the site when you’re ready for some alfresco dining. There’s also a secure bike shed on site where guests can park a bike or hang up wet jackets.

Ben Klibreck camping pod

Liked: Everything! The location, the cleanliness, the cosiness, what is provided for our use. A true hidden gem.

Disliked: Mattress was a little hard, but it wouldn't put me off staying there again!
