  • Electric hook-ups on large pitches, play area and dog-exercise field
When you’re after a peaceful night’s sleep on a well-maintained tourer park, bags of fresh air and space for the kids to have a run around, Limerick Aire may well hit the spot for you. In a quiet location five minutes’ drive from Feenagh in County Limerick, the site has spacious grass or hardstanding pitches with electric hook-ups, handy amenities such as fresh drinking water and both grey and black water disposal. And to keep the kids happy, there’s a substantial recreation area with a slide, swings and wooden playhouse for their amusement. Looking for more pluses? Here goes… You’re welcome to bring your dogs to share in all the fun, and there’s a dedicated canine exercise area as well as lots of longer walks directly from the pitches. When the weather permits, get a barbecue going on the shared firepit and eat alfresco at the picnic table. Pick up stuff for the grill at Feenagh’s essentials shop. There’s easy access to the site through the wide, gravelled entrance, each pitch has an electric hook-up and as well as security lighting at night, there’s 24-hour CCTV in operation for your safety. The owners are a trusting lot too; if they’re not around to welcome you in, simply pop what you owe into the post box by the back door.

Local attractions

Take full advantage of the fresh County Limerick air and get out exploring on foot; try the Knockfierna Walking Trail (15 minutes’ drive) for far-reaching rural views, book a round of golf at several clubs within half an hour by car, or introduce the kids to cycling along the dedicated Limerick Greenway (25 minutes). When you’re travelling with youngsters, they’ll no doubt want to head to Wild Encounters Mini Zoo (10 minutes) to see owls, meerkats and parrots and listen to keeper talks on their welfare. If your little loves haven’t had their cuteness quota for the day after that, you could do worse than heading to The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland (15 minutes) for cuddles and feeding sessions with friendly donkeys. Designated Ireland’s Prettiest Village, Adare (25 minutes) has thatched cottages, Trinitarian Abbey and the ruins of Desmond Castle to keep you busy, as well as strolls along the River Maigue and indie shops to browse. Further afield, Cork (an hour) is the place for touring the City Gaol, taking a boat trip out to the 18th-century fortress on Spike Island and stargazing at Blackrock Castle Observatory.
