  • Adults-only pitches on a working farm with views of the Cotswolds
  • A 25-minute drive from Cirencester and Cotswold Water Park
  • Farm shop on site; surrounded by dog-friendly local footpaths
If you’re crafting an adults-only break near the Cotswolds, Dora’s Pitches might just be the final ingredient. The pitches here are suitable for self-contained motorhomes and campervans only and based on a working farm with views of the Cotswolds. They're 25 minutes’ drive away from Cirencester and the Cotswold Water Park, meaning that the so-called ‘capital of the Cotswolds’ and watersports are within easy striking distance. The farm has its own shop called Dora’s Dairy, which sells milk, meat and eggs for breakfast sunny side up. There’s also a breakfast basket including a pack of bacon, a pack of pork sausages, six eggs and 500ml of fresh milk (all from the farm) available to order (just select the extra on your booking). Save any scraps for the canines; the pitches welcome well-behaved dogs. On-site facilities include water and a chemical waste disposal point. Where exactly is this place, then? Dora’s Pitches are on the edge of Purton, a quiet village with great local dining. There’s a village shop 15 minutes’ walk away and fresh produce at two farm shops within walking distance of the site. If you’re after a pint and local grub, you can find those at the local pub 15 minutes’ walk away. The working dairy farm is on top of a hill, well away from the road and surrounded by dog-friendly footpaths (with kissing gates). The welcome pack includes a map of the local footpaths, so you shouldn't get lost. Getting here should be a breeze, as the farm’s easily accessed from Junction 16 on the M4 or the A419 (both around five miles away). There is a regular bus service from the village to local towns too.

Non-electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Very friendly welcome. Farm produce to buy. Free range animals. Great view. Quiet.

Disliked: Access and exit might be difficult, especially if wet - but we didn’t have a problem with 7 metre van on a dry day.

Non-electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: The SAT NAV took me direct to the farm. The owner Jon was at the entrance we chatted for a while, then he directed me to the pitches. I wished I had ent stocked up with breakfast because the farm had all the milk sausage bacon eggs fresh off the farm. No set out pitches just an open field with plenty of flat grass to park up on. Dog walked tea cooked so time to settle in for a very peaceful quiet night. The site was a 20 min drive from my destination and just what I needed for a stop over. Will be returning next year.

Disliked: All good

Local attractions

Step foot into a steam train simulator and try changing the signals… with Great Western Railway locomotives on display and a range of interactive features, STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway (15 minutes' drive) should nicely entertain those interested in the prime time of steam trains. Budding historians have plenty more to nose around too, whether it’s walks around the 17th-century grandstand at Lodge Park & Sherborne Park Estate (40 minutes) or peaceful picnics at the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes) – both are National Trust sites. Those looking for a more active day trip will find their fix at the Cotswold Water Park (25 minutes), where there are chances to get stuck into kayaking, paddleboarding or waterskiing – or on the flip side, peacefully watching out for otters and watering birds on the lakeside trails.
