  • 'Nearly wild' camping on a secluded site in Exmoor National Park
  • A 20-minute drive from Minehead beach and South West Coast Path
  • Home-reared sausages and burgers to buy on site; barbecue provided
Tranquil Hideaway is a ‘nearly wild’ site in the gorgeous Exmoor National Park, 20 minutes’ drive from the town of Minehead up on the Somerset coast. Stays here are on a working pig farm, with plenty of quiet countryside space to go around and just enough facilities to make life comfy… guests have access to a clean portable toilet, drinking water and a chiminea, gas stove and barbecue for evenings out in the open. There’s no wifi here so the folk on site say it’s a fab spot for a digital detox and some time spent appreciating the nature all around. The atmosphere on site is one of proper rural seclusion, but it’s easy to get out to explore from this location – there are fab walks all around in Exmoor or along the coastline of west Somerset and north Devon, and plenty of things around for family days out too (beaches, farm parks and rides on the West Somerset Railway among them). It’s a fine idea to get that barbecue going of an evening – and an even better one if you invest in some of the homemade burgers and sausages available to buy on site. If you’d rather have a meal out, trot down to Timberscombe’s village pub in half an hour or so. Please remember this is a working farm, so guests are asked not to walk around the farm yard unaccompanied. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads as there’s livestock nearby.
