  • Quiet adults-only Somerset glamping in the village of Limington
  • Fleet Air Arm Museum and Montacute House within a 10-minute drive
  • Barbecue and breakfast baskets to buy on site; pub two minutes' walk
You’ll be following in famous footsteps when you stay at Wolsey Cottage Glamping – this Somerset spot is named after Cardinal Wolsey, who once resided in the cottage. So you could say this place has quite the history to it… And it’s likely you’ll also say that it’s got quite the location – this glamping site is in the little village of Limington, a handy two-minute stroll from the local pub. There are a couple more pubs in neighbouring villages too, plus takeaways and restaurants, and it’s a 15-minute drive to Yeovil for a whole range of shops and places to eat. That said, once you’ve seen the setup here you may well be keen to spend your evenings here instead – a barbecue and firepit are provided, and you can buy barbecue baskets on site for easy meals (plus continental breakfast baskets to make mornings that little bit sweeter…) There may have been historic figures here in the past, but these days your neighbours are more likely to be the site’s flock of rare-breed Valais Blacknose sheep. There's only a couple of bell tents on site, and they're well spaced so you probably won’t even see too many human guests either (and those you do see won’t be excitable kids, as this is an adults-only site). Each of the well-equipped tents has proper beds (either a double and a single or three singles depending on your preference) made up ready for your arrival, with towels, a fridge, a kettle and lighting provided too. Toilet and shower facilities are in a shared area close to the tents.

Local attractions

Make the most of your rural location by heading out for walks on a network of nearby public footpaths – there are several around the village, including a stretch of the long-distance Monarch's Way. There’s fishing close by too, at Ash Ponds, and golf at Long Sutton Golf Club (both 15 minutes' drive). For other outings, you can mix up historic house viewing and strolls around gorgeous gardens at either medieval Lytes Cary Manor or the grand Elizabethan Montacute House (both 10 minutes). Haynes Motor Museum (15 minutes) has heritage of a different kind, in the form of the UK’s largest collection of historic cars. A real highlight for many visitors is a trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum (five minutes) – time your trip to coincide with the annual air show and you’ll be able to catch some of the action from outside your tent as well as getting to the action easily.
