  • Spacious 18-foot yurt in a private one-acre wild meadow
  • A 20-minute drive from Glastonbury and 40 minutes from Cheddar Gorge
  • Dog-friendly, with a firepit, outdoor seating and no light pollution
One acre of wild meadow all to yourself, not to mention a whole 18-foot yurt with a firepit? If that sounds just dandy, get yourself down to Ashmead Meadow, 20 minutes’ drive away from Glastonbury. With a wild meadow to welcome you in and a set-up which permits children aged two or over and well-behaved dogs, there’s no point in twiddling your thumbs… You won’t have much time for thumb twiddling when you arrive either, considering that there’s an outdoor firepit with cast-iron cooking options such as a Dutch oven and skillet (for cooking outdoors) and a two-ring gas hob (for indoors). Slow down if you wish and spend a bit of time in nature. The firepit is surrounded by seats, benches and a picnic table and the yurt is tucked at the bottom of a gently-sloping wildflower meadow, surrounded by mature hedgerows, herbs and trees. With low light pollution on a high ridge above the Vale of Avalon and the Somerset Levels, starry skies may very well visit. Off-grid, spacious and not to mention attractive, the locally-made ash yurt is cosy at night as it has a woodburner and an efficient solar lighting system. There’s also a private composting toilet. Make yourself a yoga appointment – private sessions can be arranged either in the meadow or the neighbour's yoga barn. Foodwise, Pitney (10 minutes’ drive) has an organic farm shop, a café and a pub serving good food. Additional firewood is available to purchase in the barn, but the owners provide plenty of kindling and logs. The yurt is kitted out with a kingsize bed, duck down duvet, pillows, bedding, towels, kitchen equipment, gas hob, eco cleaning products and (upon request) a double futon.

Liked: Off-grid yurt in a beautiful meadow. Had the place for our sole use, sun shine, wood-fired shower, wild flowers, surrounded by orchard. Comfy bed and equipped kitchen.

Liked: really impressed how much thought has gone in making this whole place a great place to stay. there is no electricity or running water and yet you still able to have a comfortable experience. from the compostable loo, to the rain water shower and the solar baterry lights, everything is in alignment and makes you feel as much close to nature as possible. you have everything that you need for a great stay. highly recommended.

Disliked: it is right next to the road which is not very busy but still reminds you of civilization.

Liked: A lovely yurt in a beautiful setting. Have the whole place to yourself. Well equipped. Great for cooking on the fire. Lots of wood available. Very warm in the yurt with the log burner. In a lovely area. Did go out but keen to get back to the yurt as so peaceful. Melissa was very quick to reply to any questions we had. Thank you.

Disliked: Nothing
