  • Peaceful lakeside site in landscaped Victorian surrounds
  • A 10-minute drive from Frome; 20 minutes from Bradford on Avon
  • Regular food and drink events and outdoor activities
Make tracks to Marston Park for some much-needed relaxation time on an artsy Somerset site with spectacular waterside views. Here you'll be able to fully tune in to the sounds of nature while indulging in gourmet food, sipping on craft ales and appreciating art in the open air. The site is set on a spectacular Victorian estate with a lake, woodland and rolling parkland to spend your days tramping through. Natural explores in the local area are also within easy reach, as Marston Park is just outside Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a short drive from other scenic spots like the Kennet and Avon Canal. Marston Park's special programme of leisure activities focuses on boosting these already-chilled vibes, with group yoga, craft classes and site-organised strolls on the cards. Creative types heading here can also arrange access to an all-canvas studio space or pick from a programme of intimate performances and small-scale exhibits. Each tent has its own private glowing garden of light, installed by internationally acclaimed visual artist Bruce Munro. On site, there is a TONIQ Elements outdoor spa with a sauna and hot tub. Dine at the on-site restaurant Hakko House or grab a sundowner at the Outlaw bar on site. More fine food and drink is regularly available for sampling at tasting sessions organised at the pop-up bar, courtesy of the food trucks that regularly drop by to serve up lakeside bites. Fresh local produce is also sold here. Further food options can be sorted in Frome (10 minutes' drive) or at the nearest pub (10 minutes' walk).

Local attractions

Embark on a self-driven safari at Longleat (15 minutes' drive), the world-famous Wiltshire wildlife park where tigers, lions and wolves can be seen skulking between the trees. (Friendlier beasts like giraffes and lemurs are also on display.) To be in with a chance of seeing native critters like grey herons, otters and kingfishers, take your tribe for a wildlife stake-out down at Rodden Nature Reserve (10 minutes). Some of southern England's finest aristo architecture can be admired in posh nearby spots like Bath's 18th-century Royal Crescent (30 minutes) and Stourhead (15 minutes), a National Trust-managed Palladian palace with exceptional landscaped grounds. The West Country may be a far cry from big-city smog and traffic, but it's a fair deal edgier than this green and grassy landscape would initially suggest. Few places beat Bruton (20 minutes) in terms of cool: this handsome Somerset village is full of cutting-edge designers, lifestyle shops, art galleries and innovative eateries like At the Chapel, a bakery housed in a Grade-II listed former church. Free spirits who aren't too bothered by Instagrammable bites may well prefer trips to hippy haunts like Glastonbury Tor (30 minutes) or Avebury (50 minutes).

Bell tent (deluxe)

Liked: Pool & hot tub great, Pizza were good and lovely setting next to the lake. Tents are super cool and comfortable. Clean toilets and best showers at a campsite so far. Nice light show in the evening. Great place to sit and relax and decent music in the evening.

Disliked: Breakfast was super expensive - £8.50 for kids breakfast which included one croissant and a bottle of apple juice. Adults was £15 and I got the same as the kids plus a coffee and yogurt/muesli. I had ordered the breakfast the previous night, but didn't arrive until after 8.30am. Kids not too happy.
